Lubricus 2012, Yay!
So the time has finally come. *takes deep breath*
Here it is, my Lubricus Post. *g* Of course, my impressions will be skewed since I lived in the Snarry Suite™, so if anyone disagrees with my recollections, let me know.
I arrived on Wednesday afternoon, about an hour after
lilyseyes. Since it had been about 36 hours since I'd last seen her, of course we had a loud and screechy reunion in the Sea-Tac Airport. ;)
We then settled in to wait for
dementordelta, whose plane arrived about 45 mins after mine.
After collecting her, and having a similarly loud reunion with her, we then proceeded to the rental car bus and were deposited in the rental car building.
I have to tell you, they scared the bejesus out of me with the list of things for which I was responsible. Someone hits me? My fault. Someone keys the car? My fault. Mount Rainer erupts? My fault! Gah. But, since we wanted to do some sightseeing, we rented it anyway and then, with the help of Lily's handy dandy iPad app, made it to the hotel.
Then came check in with Justin. Mmm, Justin. What a sweetie. His name will come up later, but let's just say he was absolutely adorable and very accommodating. We had reserved a suite and, after some negotiation, managed to actually get it.
It was fabulous! A nice large room with lots of space, although it did have an unfortunately tiny bathroom (with the light located outside the room). *shakes head* As Lily kept saying, you'd have to step outside of it to change your mind.
Anyway, we'd run into
veridari and her daughter, S, in the lobby, so we collected them, then went and had for Thai food for dinner. YUM! The eggplant, shrimp, chicken, even the tofu (heh)...everything was delicious! Not to mention the cocktails. Lily and I had a blackberry cosmo. Delta had some other yummy thing (ginger cosmo?).
After returning to the room, S serenaded us with song until Veridari had to take her home. :(
We unpacked and, after requesting more hangers (What? We're girls!) we wandered down to the Yankee Grill and feasted on bread pudding and berry cobbler. Mmmm. :)
Friday dawned bright and clear (especially since the hotel curtains had a gap at the bottom that allowed the bright sunlight to hit my face directly at about 7 am).
Lily, who gets up at the very crack of dawn I swear was already up and had written 10 drabbles, emailed her mom and SO, and had looked through all her work email.
Delta and I were a bit slower to get up, but once we finally got moving we went for breakfast in the restaurant (Mmmm, waffles) and then, after shopping for the suite, we decided to go into Seattle and tour Pike's Place Market. Yes, we went last year, but I think we missed a lot of it because of health issues. BUT we're all healthy this year, so we went exploring! *dances* Bought flowers and jewels and fun things like pastries and smoothies, mmm. I must say, driving in Seattle was...interesting. Those steep hills made me glad I'd rented an automatic. :O
After returning to the hotel, we went to get our con badges and met up with, well, everyone! We found
roozetter,
atypicalsnowman, Veridari,
chaeche,
emmagrant01,
vimeslady,
tripperfunster,
littleblackbow,
djin7,
dacro,
amightypenguin,
oldenuf2nb,
roma_fics,
saladbats,
winnett,
dysonrules,
andreanna, and
xterm, just to name a few, and we even got to meet
sugareey,
sevensickles and
rurounihime. *dances*
After the squeeing, a bunch of use went for Chinese, where we scandalized the staff with our loud talk about slash and peen and Tripper's peacocks (although I don't think they understood much of it). We did keep offering to order Delta (who's vegetarian) some fried intestines and/or chicken feet. Oddly, she didn't take us up on that. :P
We returned to the hotel, dropped by the Con Suite (one floor down from us) and then returned to our room, where we started the Snarry decorating and prepared the gifty bags for our get together. DJ dropped by a bit later and we had a fun chat about the evolution of fanfic, from zines to journals and archives to tumblr etc.
Friday morning we had breakfast at "Lubricus 101", then went todecorate peen the ice breaker. Hilarious! We had feathers and jewels and glitter and just about everything with which to 'p-jazzle'. Fun times! See the results here.
That was also when quotes started going up on the quotes wall. *g*
After we dragged some people out to lunch (yay sushi!) we attended Tripper's panel on the worst fic EVAH. It was truly hilarious and disturbing. *shakes head* Poor, poor Dobby. Apparently he knows why Dumbledore twinkles. And Hedwig! *weeps* I think Tripp traumatized poor
samwise_sam with what she read about Hedwig. I have it on good authority, however, that Delta is going to fix that fic since, as she stated during the reading, 'the problem is the POV shifts'. ;)
Because of missing con attendees, Lily substituted and taught the panel on AUs, which resulted in a spirited discussion on AUs vs ARs, what makes an AU good (or not), and what makes an OC acceptable. I may have helped her out a bit with that one. ;)
Then it was on to "How do you write?" also run by Lily. It was interesting to hear everyone's strategies for plotting and overcoming writer's block. We had some artists attend, too, so they threw in their two Knuts as well. Great discussion!
We returned to the suite to arrange furniture for the party, wandered down to the craft fair where I got a Snape "Potions Towel", commissioned a Harry "Quidditch Towel" and got a custom leather wand holster made. *g* I also got one of Tripp's t-shirts, some of her buttons, and just, well, spent money.
We left to prepare for our partay (whoo hoo, Snarry!). We made up our smores dip (dude, if you like smores, and actually, even if you don't, this stuff is AWESOME). We had plenty of visitors and there was lots of Snarry drawing and discussion, as is only right. :)
The party seemed to go well and we even had raffle prizes. Our guests (for the most part) were absolutely lovely. ♥
Saturday morning, Lily and I ran the drabble workshop, which was fun, as always. Of course there was the usual grumbling about not being able to drabble but just everyone wrote something and read it out loud, and I hope people learned a bit and will be more confident in their drabbling abilities. *stares at certain stubborn people*
We then attended "Slash and your SO", a fascinating talk given by Roma_Fics. *hugs her* It did result in some paranoia in the audience *hugs Vimeslady* but it was certainly thought-provoking. :/
We did some more crafting and then went to "Porn and Smut: More than just four letter words", then retired to our room to have some kinky cocktails. ;) What? That's what it was called. Also? Mmmm, HPnotic cocktails are yummy, too. *g* While Delta and Veridari and several others journeyed into Seattle, Lily and I absconded with Roo andplied her with alcohol entertained her in Delta's bed our room, by which I mean, made her help us write drabbles. ;)
We ordered yummilicious room service, ate, and then prepared for the Blue Ball, which was very fun!
There was a lot of blue on display. Lily, who looked adorable in her blue dress with bue tights and blue...everything, was the epitome of the ball, although I have to say, Dacro's dress was DA BOMB. *g* Roo wore purple and white, which of course meant I had to drop a feathered fascinator onto her head. She looked so glam! As did Delta in her oh-so-blue outfit. :) There were lots of glam people, in fact. I really lusted after Lita Skeeter's blingy cape and witch's hat and, of course,Dacro Dacro's dress. *g*
The Plot Bunny (Chaeche) kept wandering around giving out fic bunnies. You can see what we did with ours here. ;)
The Ball was fun and was where Justin made his slash debut. *g* He came in to say goodbye (he'd been so sweet all weekend, making sure we had everything we needed...) Anyway, while at the ball, he met up with our Snape coplayer, and, since Justin looked a bit like Harry (only without glasses or a scar), well, I imagine you know what happened next. Heh. It was when AMightyPenguin (cosplaying Draco) joined them, however, that everyone went a bit mad. Mmm, Drapery!
Poor Justin. Still, he played along gamely, although at one point he was heard to say "Um, I have a boyfriend--". In his defense, our Snape was getting rather handsy with his tie. *pets Justin*
Anyway, we all wandered around, danced, took pictures and I even did some coloring of the Snarry in our Con coloring book. :)
Then, finally exhausted, we retired to our room around 1 am to pack to leave the next day. *sigh*
Somehow I managed to get everything (except my fascinators) back into my luggage, so Lily has them now, which, since we share them, makes sense. :)
After leaving what remained of the HPnotic by the Con Suite, we had breakfast. Mmmm, bacon. Sadly our flights were so early that we missed the raffle. *sniffs* Still, I'm glad we left when we did since it took all three of us to figure out how to open the gas tank on the rented car. :/
We made great time to the airport despite that, and happily, returned the car in one piece.
Of course my flight was oversold. *shakes head* Oh, and the crew was stuck on a bus somewhere, so we took off like 45 mins late, anyway. Luckily, I did make my connection in DFW (actually THAT crew was late, too), but I got home a couple hours late. Which was about the time I began wondering why I'd decided to go directly to work the next day. Gah!
Also? I still haven't unpacked. *sigh*
And so that was it. Another Lubricus down. *sighs* I hope there wil be another next year. It's a small, intimate con, but it's always so much fun, and together we are a mighty group of slashers!
