Accepting Change

“What do you mean, ‘no’?” Harry’s hands are clenched into fists and Severus tries to ignore the look of hurt on his face. “Last night you said--”
“Last night was...an aberration.”
“You bastard.” For a moment something bright and dangerous flares in Harry’s eyes and then is gone.
Severus blinks. He hadn’t thought Harry had that much control over his emotions. Apparently he’s learned something from me. “There’s no need to get personal.”
“There’s no--” Shaking his head, Harry laughs. It’s a bitter sound. “And I suppose there was nothing personal about the way you fucked me up against your door last night? And then in the hallway leading to your bedroom? And then in your bed--”
“I was there, Harry.” Severus wants to call back the words. Potter. Damn it, I meant to say Potter. But Harry is under his skin. And now they both know it.
Eyes narrowed, Harry smiles. “All right, we’ll do it your way.”
Severus ignores the sharp stab in his chest. “Good day to you, then.”
Harry saunters over to the table and sits. “Thanks. Although I’m not going anywhere.”
“What?” Severus grinds his teeth. Stubborn, irritating-- “Of course you are. Minerva will be here in ten minutes. If she finds you here--”
“She will find me here. And if she asks why I’m here I’ll tell her.” Harry snaps his fingers and a house-elf appears. It simpers when it sees him and Severus’ headache gets worse. “Breakfast for three, Winky. You know what the Headmistress likes, yes?”
The elf nods.
“Thank you.” Harry smiles at it and the elf almost swoons before disappearing.
“How dare you issue orders in my rooms?” Severus snaps.
Harry shrugs. “Someone has to. You’re clearly not going to take any responsibility for anything.”
Severus’ wand is in his hand before he can stop it. Harry smiles. It’s cold. “Are you going to hex me, Severus?” He shakes his head. “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”
Severus closes his eyes, lowering his wand. “Don’t you see?” he pleads. “If you leave now, Harry, this can be a mistake. But if you stay and people find out--”
“Then they know we care about each other?” Harry’s voice is close and Severus, startled, opens his eyes to find him standing directly in front of him. He hadn’t heard him move. “Sorry, but I don’t care.” Slowly, carefully, he reaches out, cupping Severus’ cheek in his hand as if taming a wild animal. “And I hate to break it to you, but I think some people know anyway.”
“Who?” Despite himself, Severus leans into Harry’s touch.
Harry moves closer. “I may have mentioned it to Ron, Hermione, Hagrid--”
“Hagrid? You told--?” Severus is speechless for a moment. “You fool! He’s incapable of keeping a secret! He’ll tell everyone!”
“Is that so?” Harry’s eyes are glittering with some emotion Severus is afraid to name. “What a shame.”
Severus sags. “Salazar. We can’t contain it now.”
“No, we can’t.” Harry presses against him. “I’m afraid you’ve been outmanoeuvred, Professor.”
Growling, Severus dips his head, capturing Harry’s mouth in a desperate kiss. The knock on his door comes just as things start to get interesting. Dragging his mouth from Harry’s, he’s gratified to see the dazed look in Harry’s eyes. “Minerva.”
Harry’s face clears and he steps away. “I’ll let her in then, shall I?” He watches Severus carefully and Severus sees in his eyes that he’s not going anywhere.
And somehow, Severus is all right with that. Resigned to his fate, Severus nods. “Please do.”

then i remembered, he's taken lessons from severus, and knows how to manipulate the situation. yay!! (and i have a feeling minerva is going to be all "it's about TIME, you two!")

Despite his motivations, though, I doubt Severus actually wants to be alone. He clearly adores Harry or he'd never let him near him in that way. :)
