Clear Communication

~

Harry frowned. He could tell that Severus still had doubts. “What we’ve got here,” he said, “is a failure to communicate.”

Severus raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

“Mmhm.” Shifting, Harry straddled Severus’ lap. “Let me explain as clearly as possible.” Leaning in, he nipped at Severus’ mouth. “I. Have. No. Interest. In. Malfoy.” After kissing him deeply, Harry sat back. “Any of them, in fact.”

Severus caressed Harry’s back. “You seem sure,” he murmured.

Harry sighed. “The only thing I’m sure about is that I’d like to see where this takes us, and that even if we break up next week, next month, or next year, I will not be dating Malfoy.” He shuddered. “Now, can we change the subject?”

“Certainly.” Severus smirked. “What are your plans for the afternoon?”

“Well, I thought I’d hang about here, getting underfoot until dinner, at which point I thought I’d cook for you.” Harry toyed with the collar of Severus’ shirt.

Severus hummed. “While you’ve shown you know your way around a kitchen, I believe we may have a problem.”

“What’s that?” asked Harry.

“You’ve depleted my supplies.” Severus smirked. “Unless you’re planning to make toasted cheese for dinner.”

Harry grinned. “While I love toasted cheese, I was planning to make you spaghetti bolognese. We’ve two choices. I can either summon Kreacher to get the ingredients, or--”

“Or?” repeated Severus as Harry hesitated.

“Or we could go shopping together.” Harry caught his bottom lip between his teeth.

“That seems the obvious solution.” Severus’ eyes narrowed. “Why does it make you nervous?”

Harry looked away. “I wasn’t sure you’d want to be seen with me in public. Much as I hate it, the press still hounds me. Last month on my birthday--” He shuddered. “Well, needless to say, it was a zoo. So I’ll understand if you’d rather I just shop alone--”

Leaning forward, Severus gathered Harry to him, kissing him breathless. When they finally separated, they were both panting. Severus’ gaze seemed to burn into Harry’s. “You are cooking for me, Harry,” he said. “That is a gift. I believe I can manage anything the press or the public throw at us.”

Relieved, Harry smiled. “Brilliant! Then let’s go.”
