Snowflake Challenge Day 2, 2017

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Let's see. There are tons of contenders for this. Lord of the Rings, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar Series, Ilona Andrews' Magic series...
But, given all the time I spend writing and reading and debating Harry Potter, that would have to be the book. Changed my life? Definitely.
I've met so many dear friends through HP that I'd be here all day typing if I had to name them all.
The characters are my friends, and I want to make them happy, to see them satisfied and fulfilled. Well, most of them, anyway. ;)
As for a specific HP fanwork that changed my life, again, it would have to be The Tea Series, my gateway into my OTP. Sadly, the author has removed all her fanworks from the internet, but she did allow a few of us to copy those works for our own perusal, so I have a copy safely tucked away on my hard drive. :)

Song? Hm... I can't just say the entire Baroque period, can I? Damn. All right, how about Handel's Messiah, which completely blew my mind the first time I heard it as a teenager.
I know it very well now, having sung it (at least the chorus parts) many times, but it fills me with wonder every time I hear it, and I have been known to cry during especially moving performances.

Movie. Wow, so many contenders, but I have to say, I really adore Galaxy Quest. Not only because the amazingly talented Alan Rickman (God rest his soul) was in it. But it's simply the most quotable movie ever, IMO. I can't even say how many times I've seen it, but I will watch it any time, any place.

TV. Yikes, this is tough, but...Dr Who? I mean, I loved the original series, but since I grew up in Jamaica, we got the episodes in a piecemeal fashion, and I'm not sure they were broadcast in any order, so I had no clue what was happening from episode to episode. That changed when they rebooted it with Nine, who was fabulous. And then came Ten. David Tennant is still the Doctor of my heart, and, despite hating her at first, Donna became my Companion. *sigh*
Right now I'm watching a lot of things (thank God for the DVR) but since I record everything from Chopped to The Librarians, it's hard to pick anything that's a standout. One of these days I'll get around to watching Game of Thrones, the rest of The Walking Dead, and even Yuri on Ice, LOL.

And wow, that got wordy. I didn't actually think I had that much to say. :)

THE BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD IS MY SHIT. It's actually where I got this username from. (The Virgin Scribe's real name is Annalise, so I took out a N to avoid plagiarism.)

P.S. SKIP GAME OF THRONES AND GO STRAIGHT TO YURI ON ICE!!!!

Harry Potter is the jam. It didn't change my life, but it was so massive, even I couldn't help but dip my toes into the fandom back in the day. :-)

I honestly don't know what I'd be doing with my life, were it not for the HP fandom. I, too, met so many wonderful people via fandom, and I wouldn't change the experience for anything.
