Confidence

“How’s goes baby-making?” Hermione asked Harry one day at work.
Harry choked. “Hermione!”
She raised an eyebrow. “What?”
Harry sighed. There were days he wished he’d never taken her into his confidence. “It’s...going.”
“That doesn’t sound too enthusiastic.” Hermione pursed her lips. “If you’d like some tips--”
“Hermione!”
She laughed. “Relax. I’m kidding.” Reaching across the desk, she patted his arm. “Although, now that I’m a Weasley, I’m reliably informed I’m an expert.”
Despite himself, Harry laughed. “If we need help we’ll consult you,” he lied.
She smiled. “Seriously, though, everyone will know soon enough. You should prepare for questions.”
Harry sighed. She was right.

“You wish to deflect pregnancy questions before we even get pregnant?” Severus asked as he decanted his latest potion. “How?”
Harry sighed. “Maybe an interview? Once Luna returns from her honeymoon she’ll do it.”
“The Quibbler’s preferable to The Prophet,” Severus said. “And the public does seem insatiable for news about their Saviour.”
Harry rolled his eyes. “And about the mysterious, elusive war hero, Severus Snape.”
Severus snorted. “I’m confident that if I were to disappear off the face of the earth, very few would care.”
“I’d care.”
Severus smiled. “Hence why I haven’t done it.”
“So...interview?”
“Very well.”

“People are curious about your relationship,” Luna said. “Your story’s quite romantic.”
Harry’s fingers tightened on Severus’. “I’ve always thought so,” he said softly.
“What attracted you to Harry, Severus?” Luna asked.
Severus cleared his throat. “His confidence.” He glanced fondly at Harry. “Even at eleven, he was fearless. He’s never truly believed that there was anything he couldn’t do.”
Harry’s mouth dropped open. “Severus,” he whispered. “Wow.”
Luna coughed. “Let’s take a break.”
Once they were alone, Harry said, “You really think that?”
Severus smiled. “I always have.”
Luna never commented on how dishevelled they were when she returned.

“That was a success,” Harry said when they got home.
Severus nodded. “We’ll see how the interview is received.”
Harry smiled. “I don’t see how anyone can find fault with it. We’re just a married couple who want to get on with our lives and expand our family.”
“Indeed. And speaking of which--” Severus held up his hand and, a moment later, a small phial flew into it. “I’ve adjusted the formula.”
Smile deepening, Harry pressed against him. “Should we test it out?”
Severus chuckled. “I was confident that you would say that,” he purred. “Testing is always needed.”
“Brilliant.”
