Magic Time
~
The Battle of Hogwarts raged around Remus. When the air shimmered and Severus appeared, however, Remus blinked. Their affair was secret, was Severus making it public?
Before he could react, Severus thrust something into his hand. “Use it when the time’s right,” he hissed before disappearing once more.
Gobsmacked, Remus stared at the item. Where the hell did Severus get a Time-Turner and why’s he giving it to me now? He shook his head. And how will I know the right time?
Frowning, Remus slipped it into his pocket, and in the heat of battle, the Time-Turner was quickly forgotten.

So many were dead, every direction held devastation and destruction. And still they fought. Where’s Harry? Remus thought as he spotted two students scurrying by, ducking for cover.
“...can’t believe Snape’s dead!” one of the students said.
Remus’ mouth dropped open. “What?” he snapped, grabbing one’s arm. Under the grime it turned out to be Ron Weasley.
Ron blinked up at him. “Snape’s dead, sir,” he repeated. “Saw it happen myself.”
Hermione sobbed. “Nagini bit him--” She exhaled shakily.
“What happened?” Remus whispered, fingers fondling the Time-Turner in his pocket.
Hermione succinctly told him.
“Where?”
“The Shack.”
Remus ran.

Before entering the Shack, Remus spun the Time-Turner once. After the world settled, Remus hid, a growl welling up in his throat as he heard Voldemort and Lucius enter and begin to plot.
“Find Severusss--” Voldemort eventually hissed.
Remus watched the scene play out. When Nagini bit Severus it was all he could do not to emerge and scream the killing curse.
Afterward he waited, knowing Harry, Ron, and Hermione had to find Severus and leave. But, finally, it was time. He hurried towards Severus, praying. “You’ve got to live,” he whispered. And, holding Severus carefully, he Disapparated them both.

“How did you save me?” Severus asked later.
Remus smiled. “I did what you told me.”
After he explained what had happened, Severus frowned. “I gave you a Time-Turner? But where’d I get it?”
“No idea.” Remus shrugged. “Lucky you did, though.”
Severus snorted. “My luck’s never been anything but atrocious.” He swallowed hard. “Am I a fugitive?”
“No. Everyone thinks we’re dead.”
“We?”
Remus smiled. “We both needed a fresh start.” He held up the Time-Turner. “This provides it.”
Severus shook his head. “How’d this happen?”
Remus leaned in, kissing him. “Magic.”
Slowly Severus smiled in acceptance. “Evidently so.”
