Life’s Complications
~
“Severus?” Waking alone, Harry went in search of Severus. He finally found Severus watching the sun rise across the lake.
“Bit nippy,” said Harry sidling up to him.
“You’re a competent wizard,” Severus murmured. “Cast a Warming Charm.”
Harry hummed. One of those days, apparently. “Why are you out here?” he asked gently.
Severus exhaled. “I’m thinking.” He cleared his throat. “Don’t you have work?”
“I was worried.”
“I’m fine.”
Harry pursed his lips. Severus was brilliant, complicated, broody and definitely not fine. “Tell me.”
“It’s nothing,” Severus snapped, starting for the house.
Harry sighed. Definitely one of those days.
~
“What’s wrong?” Hermione asked as soon as Harry got to work.
“How do you know something’s wrong?”
Hermione raised an eyebrow.
Harry sighed. “It’s Severus.”
She rolled her eyes. “Of course it is. He’s very...complicated.” Upon hearing about Severus’ distant, cool behaviour, she paused, eyeing the calendar. “Oh, Harry,” she said, shaking her head. “No wonder he’s off today. Look!”
Harry stared at the calendar, puzzled. “What?”
“The date!” Hermione sighed at his blank look. “It’s the anniversary of Dumbledore death.”
“Well shit.” Harry whispered.
“Go home,” Hermione ordered. “We’ll manage without you.”
“But what if--?”
"Go!"
Harry went.
~
Severus was sitting outside, once again contemplating the lake. Silently, Harry approached. “I’ve something for you.”
“Indeed.” Severus huffed. “You honestly think I can be coaxed out of a bad mood by trivial baubles?”
Harry mentally counted to ten. “No, you complicated bastard. Which is why I rarely buy you things. Now, do you want it or not?”
Eyes narrowed, Severus rose, following Harry inside. He blinked. “A Pensieve?”
“The gift isn't the Pensieve, it’s this.” Drawing his wand, Harry extracted the memory he’d been keeping at the forefront of his mind, placing it in the Pensieve. “I’ll be outside.”
~
When, minutes later, Severus embraced him from behind, Harry sagged in relief. “All right?”
Severus kissed his temple. “Whatever did you do to deserve such a temperamental and complicated partner?”
Harry laughed softly. “Just lucky apparently.” Turning in Severus’ arms, he whispered, “I’m sorry. I forgot what day it was.”
Severus shook his head. “Apologies aren’t necessary.” His fingers traced Harry’s jaw. “Thank you for the gift.”
“Did it help?” Harry asked.
“To see your memories of Albus, healthy in the afterlife, knowing he forgave me?” Severus smiled. “Indeed.”
Harry kissed him. There were times he didn’t regret having died.

Date: 2013-04-18 01:00 pm (UTC)That's true that Severus is sometimes so much complicated. But if Harry wants someone simple he would be with Ginny. And now, when Severus knows that Dumbledore is all right in the afterlife he could give Harry a baby. I'm still waiting for pregnant Harry x)

Date: 2013-04-26 03:54 am (UTC)Well, I guess it was a bit melancholy, but I think Severus (and Harry) would have their down days. *pets them*
And yes, Harry isn't interested in anyone without depth. (Not saying Ginny is without depth, but I think you're right, Severus is a very complex man.)
*laughs* Pregnant Harry should be coming up eventually. :)

Date: 2013-04-18 05:09 pm (UTC)and even though dumbledore WANTED severus to do what he did, severus still needed the forgiveness, and what a blessing that harry could give the memory to him!
sweet boys. *pinches their cheeks*

Date: 2013-04-26 03:55 am (UTC)Yes, I like to think that Albus would approve of Harry using his memories in this way. *pets them both*
Thank you, sweetie!
