“Up for a walk?” Harry suggested after dinner.
“No,” said Severus. “My potion’s at a delicate point.”
“Use a Stasis Charm.”
“I’d prefer not to.”
Harry smiled. “You really hate the great outdoors, don’t you?”
“There’s little to recommend it. There are biting insects, dirt, not to mention creatures who’d as soon eat you as look at you.”
Harry blinked. “No wonder everyone thought you were a vampire when we were in school! Come on, a nice walk will be brilliant.”
“Doubtful.”
“I’ll reward you later.”
Severus snorted. “What sort of reward?”
“A good one.”
Severus sniffed. “It’d better be.”

“This isn’t so bad, is it?” Harry murmured as they strolled outside. “You see? The great outdoors can be enjoyable.”
“Indeed.” Severus’ gaze swept their surroundings as if scanning for danger. “If you insist. Now that we’ve walked, however, perhaps it’s time to retire.”
Harry laughed, tightening his fingers on Severus’. “We’ve only been out here ten minutes.”
Severus rolled his eyes. “If I end up being bitten by some misbegotten insect--”
“You won’t be.” Leaning in, Harry kissed him. “I’ll protect you.”
“Humph.” Severus nevertheless relaxed. “See that you do. So, where are we going?”
Harry grinned. “You’ll see.”
~
As they stepped into the clearing, Severus’ eyes narrowed. “You planned this.”
Harry coughed. “Whatever do you mean?” he asked, wordlessly lighting the floating candles.
Severus raised an eyebrow. “Candles, a blanket-- what exactly were you thinking would happen out here?”
Clasping both Severus’ hands, Harry pulled him close. “I was thinking that I could distract you so you could enjoy both me and the great outdoors tonight.”
Severus hummed as Harry dragged him down onto the blanket. “And I suppose this is your idea of a reward?”
Harry smiled as he straddled him. “Do you object?”
“Not at all.”
~
“Perhaps the great outdoors has some good features,” Severus whispered after they’d made love and had caught their breath.
Harry smiled into Severus’ neck. “I knew I could change your mind.”
“What I don’t understand is why we needed to do this outdoors,” Severus murmured. “Was our own bed too boring?”
“No.” Harry laughed softly. “I just thought this would be something fun. Different.”
“Different isn’t always better.”
Harry hummed. “It’s not always worse, either.”
“True enough.” Severus stretched. “Home?”
“I guess--” A sting on his arse made Harry wince. “Ow!”
Severus smirked. “I told you the outdoors was dangerous.”
