Truth or Dare

“Perhaps a staff party--”
Severus, who’d been contemplating his budget, looked at Minerva. “Excuse me?”
She smiled. “A party. For the staff. Half of whom are new.”
“Indeed.” Severus resumed budget perusal. “As headmistress, that’s your prerogative--”
Minerva hummed. “True. We’ll have a party to welcome our new staff, then. I’m placing you in charge of the entertainment.”
Severus blinked. “Impossible.”
Minerva raised an eyebrow. “I daresay it’s quite possible. I recall you clearly knew how to celebrate when you were a student.”
“That was decades ago--!”
“Then channel your inner child, Severus.” Minerva was implacable. “The party is Saturday.”
~
“Have you heard?” Hermione asked.
Harry, packing boxes, looked at her. “Heard?”
“There’s a staff welcome party Saturday.”
Harry blinked. “Is that normal?”
Hermione shrugged. “I’ve no idea. It’s my first year on staff, too.”
Ron, watching them, shook his head. “I can’t believe you’re both teaching at Hogwarts.”
Harry grinned. “You could join us. McGonagall’s still looking for a Quidditch coach.”
Ron sighed. “I wouldn’t dare. George would kill me.”
“You’ll visit, right?” said Hermione, heated promise in her eyes.
Ron grinned. “Definitely.”
Melancholy, Harry looked away. Inexplicably, his thoughts turned to Snape. One day my Prince will come.
~
Severus watched concealed as Potter, Granger, and Weasley walked into Hogwarts’ entrance. Noting how close Granger and Weasley were, he relaxed. At least I don’t have to be concerned about Potter and Granger being engaged in public displays of affection. He snorted, turning away. Not that anyone would dare given the headmistress’ instructions.
By the time he arrived downstairs, Severus had schooled his face, hoping to project aloof indifference.
“...put Severus in charge of the welcome party,” Minerva was saying.
Three pairs of shocked eyes swung his way. Severus smirked. “Indeed, Headmistress. Plans are underway.”
Shockingly, Potter grinned. “Can’t wait.”
~
Saturday found Harry busy preparing his classroom for the students who’d be arriving the following week. He hadn’t seen much of Hermione since Ron visited frequently, taking as much time as he dared from his business with George.
In fact, Harry hadn’t missed them much. Most of his thoughts were consumed, surprisingly, by Snape. He’s everywhere. Every time I turn around, he’s there.
It was disconcerting and yet... There’s something about the way he looks at me. Harry shivered. I’ll get to the bottom of it tonight.
Harry smiled. Time to see if the Prince is worth scaling the tower.
~
The party was sedate, circumspect. After an hour, Minerva approached towards Severus. “Have you planned any activities?”
Severus, standing by the window staring at Potter, glared at her. “Indeed not. Party games are for juveniles.” He smirked. “If you wanted that sort of thing, you should have put someone else in charge of planning.”
Minerva rolled her eyes. “It’s a good thing I’m prepared for any contingency. Everyone!” She clapped her hands. “It’s time to loosen the atmosphere, get to know each other.”
Severus froze. What in the hell--?
Minerva’s smirk made him go cold. “Time for Truth or Dare!”
~
Harry licked his lips, trying to stay calm. Magical Truth or Dare was a dangerous game. And it was his turn. So far, everyone had asked questions like, “What’s your middle name?” or “What’s your favourite game?” But now it’s my turn. Finally. I get to ask Snape questions.
“Truth or Dare?” he said, turning towards Snape.
Snape held his gaze for a long moment. “Dare.”
Harry smiled. Fortunately, he’d been prepared for that eventuality, too. “I dare you to Legilimise me.”
Someone gasped, Harry thought it was Hermione. He held Snape’s eyes.
Snape smiled back. “As you wish. Legilimens!”
~
Severus extracted himself from Potter’s mind. “Impressive. You’ve mastered Occlumency. Congratulations.”
Potter’s eyes glittered. “Thanks.”
Filius coughed. “Right, my turn. Minerva? Truth or Dare?”
As the game continued, Severus regarded Potter thoughtfully. “Why?” he finally asked quietly.
“Why Occlude, then let you in?” At Severus’ nod, Potter leaned close. “To prove I could keep you out if I’d wanted.”
“You wanted me to see those thoughts?” Severus said.
Potter nodded.
Severus raised an eyebrow. “Some were--”
“Salacious? Risqué?” Potter blushed. “Sorry. That just seems to happen with you.”
“Indeed.” Severus’ fingers brushed Potter’s arms. “We should talk.”
Potter smiled. “Please.”
~
Harry’d been counting the minutes until the party’s end. Hermione kept shooting concerned looks his way, and Harry kept sending reassuring ones back.
“What are you doing?” she asked as the staff room emptied and Snape lingered, staring at Harry.
Harry exhaled. “No idea. Wish me luck?”
Hermione sighed, hugging him. “Good luck.”
Once she was gone, Harry approached Snape. “A moment, Professor Snape?”
“Of course.”
“Goodnight, gentlemen,” said McGonagall, waving them off.
Almost by instinct they went to Snape’s quarters. “We don’t dare have this conversation without wards,” Snape murmured as he gestured Harry inside.
Harry nodded. True enough.
~
Severus couldn’t believe it. Upon entering his quarters, Potter’d turned to him, saying, “Everything you saw in my mind was true. I’ve been wanting you for ages.”
Instincts Severus hadn’t known he’d possessed made him drag Potter close, dare to kiss him. Amazingly, Potter’d kissed him back.
After that, everything was fuzzy. There’d been gasping and moaning, clothing being shed and naked skin on naked skin. And now--
“Please don’t think I do this all the time,” Potter whispered, derailing Severus’ thoughts. He caressed Severus’ chest. “It’s just...I’ve wanted you for ages.”
Indeed. Severus straddled him. “We’ll talk later.”
~
They talked between bouts of sex and snogging. Harry’d had fumbling encounters with other boys, but this... It’s incredible. He’s incredible!
“Perhaps you discovering my book wasn’t so bad after all,” Snape purred the next morning as they ate breakfast in his quarters.
Harry grinned. “Not only did it teach me Potions, but I fell--” He bit back the words. Maybe Snape wasn’t ready to hear that yet.
Snape’s eyes narrowed. “If we’re to do this, we must dare to be honest with each other.”
Harry smiled. “I fell in love with you because of that book.”
Snape nodded. “Then finding it definitely wasn’t a mistake.”

Glad you enjoyed!

Date: 2013-07-20 02:31 am (UTC)Yeah, one of the personal challenges I set for myself is to include the assigned word in each drabble. it can be difficult, but I have to make this a challenge somehow, right? ;)
I'm pleased you enjoyed the set!
And I've friended you back! I'm always glad to make new friends. :)
