Happy Master, Happy Life

~

Draco’s things arrived that evening. “Pick whichever room you like,” Harry said. “There’re several.”

“Excellent.” Sashaying up the stairs, Harry heard him murmuring to Kreacher, then heard a door close.

He chose Regulus’ room? Harry thought when he walked past to go to bed. Figures.

Harry saw Draco only occasionally. He ate with Harry, but spent most days chatting with Kreacher. Still, it’s nice having company, Harry thought.

The third evening Draco burst into the parlour, where Harry was reading. “What’s Godric’s Hollow?” he snapped.

Harry blinked. “My other home.”

Draco closed his eyes. “Idiot. Take me there at once!”

~

“This is Godric’s Hollow?” Draco stood in front of the ruin that had been Harry’s parents’ home. “Why haven’t you repaired it?”

“Just haven’t got around to it yet,” Harry said, defensive. “Why are we here? I hired you to uncurse Grimmauld.”

Draco huffed, clearly exasperated. “You own both of them, and both have elves.”

Harry frowned. “There’s an elf here?”

“So I’m told.” Draco moved forward, wand drawn.

Harry tried to ignore the way Draco’s arse filled out his trousers. “Who told you that?” He moved into position beside Draco.

“Someone who’d know.” Wand high, Draco cried, “Elf Revelio!”

~

There was a pop and a diminutive form appeared in Godric’s Hollow’s ruins. Its eyes brimmed with tears, and it wrung its hands.

Harry gaped. “He’s been here all this time?”

She,” Draco said, moving forward. “Are you Mippy?”

The elf ignored him. “Bad elf. She let the bad people come--”

Draco glanced at Harry. “Ask her if she’s Mippy.”

Harry nodded. “Are you Mippy?”

The elf immediately stopped muttering to herself. “Master,” she breathed. “Baby master is back!”

Right. Harry glanced at Draco, but his attention was fixed on the elf. “What now?”

Draco smirked. “You’ll think of something.”

~

Harry rolled his eyes. Git. He smiled at Mippy. “Would you like to come with us?”

Mippy cringed. “Cannot leave Godric’s Hollow!”

Harry sighed. “This house is gone, but I’ve another. You could work there.”

Mippy’s eyes widened. “You want Mippy in another house? With you?”

“Er, sure.” He glanced again at Draco, but got no clues from his expression. “I’ve another elf, so you’d have company.” Although Harry wasn’t sure what sort of company Kreacher would be.

Mippy clapped her hands. “Baby master!” she cried, and disappeared.

Draco exhaled. “Well done, Potter. For an unlettered oaf, that wasn’t bad.”

~

Harry frowned. “Well she couldn’t stay here! Godric’s Hollow’s in ruins. It was the only decent thing to do.”

Draco regarded him for a long moment. “As I said. Not bad.”

Harry coughed. Draco’s stare was disconcerting. “So what does this have to do with the curses on Grimmauld?”

Draco smirked. “Let’s get back. Perhaps it will become clear to you.”

Still confused, Harry clasped his arm, Side-Along-Apparating them both directly into his parlour. For a moment after landing he stared into Draco’s eyes, then blinked, looking around. “What the--?”

Draco inclined his head. “A bit different, no?”

Harry gaped.

~

The parlour was spotless, and several items were missing, including some of the larger pieces of furniture. “What happened?”

“You rescued Kreacher’s sister.” Draco hummed, running a finger over the mantel. “I knew Kreacher’s help would be invaluable. Anyway, there are traces of Dark magic here, but I can handle that easily enough. Actually, it’ll probably dissipate on its own.”

“Kreacher’s sister?” Harry was completely bewildered. “How--?”

Draco gestured towards a sofa. “Let’s sit. All that standing around at Godric’s Hollow was tiring.”

“Okay.” Harry sat, unsettled when Draco sprawled beside him. “Spill.”

Draco sighed. “Well, it started years ago--”

~

Harry’s head reeled with Draco’s explanation. “So Arcturus Potter owned Kreacher’s sister, and he gifted her to my parents when they moved to Godric’s Hollow? When they died--”

“Only Kreacher remembered Mippy.” Draco sighed. “And since you own the house, only you could free her.”

“So my inviting her to live here--”

“Freed her. I figured you would,” Draco said. “And elf honour insisted there be no hints from me.”

“So now what?” Harry asked.

“Now?” Draco smirked. “Kreacher uncurses your house.”

Kreacher?”

Draco shrugged. “He knows where all the curses are.”

Harry swallowed hard. “You’re leaving?”

Draco snorted. “Please. Someone should supervise.”

Harry relaxed. “Right.”

~

As Kreacher and Draco removed the Dark magic from Grimmauld Place, Mippy told Harry stories about his infancy in Godric’s Hollow.

As Draco got close to finishing, Harry got nervous. He liked having Draco around. I’d like to keep him here.

“The house looks great,” said Hermione when she visited. “It usually feels so--”

“Dark?” Harry said.

She laughed. “And things seem friendly with Draco.”

Harry sighed. “I wish they were more than just friendly.”

Hermione blinked, then smiled. “I think you’re telling the wrong person.”

“I agree,” said Draco from the door.

Rising, Hermione kissed Harry’s cheek. “Good luck.”

~

“You won’t need luck,” Draco said once Hermione was gone.

Harry leaned against the mantel, trying to look casual. “No?”

Draco smirked. “I saw the way you stared at my arse when we were in Godric’s Hollow.”

“Ah.” Harry blushed. “I was trying not to be obvious.”

Humming, Draco moved closer. “But I expect obvious from you, Potter.”

Harry smiled. “Then I’m sorry to disappoint.”

“You haven’t. Yet,” Draco murmured, leaning in. “Something tells me we’re unlikely to disappoint each other.”

Harry laughed, and, clasping Draco’s hand, drew him towards the stairs. “Let’s see, shall we?”

“Most definitely,” Draco purred.

~

“Filthy half-blood--” Kreacher muttered, glaring at the closed bedroom door. When Mippy smacked him, however, he winced.

“Master baby Potter is not filthy,” she insisted. “He is good master.”

“He cavorts with Master Malfoy--”

“So?” Mippy sniffed, turning away. “They is happy. Master and Mistress Potter was happy. Godric’s Hollow was a place of happiness.”

“Even for you?” Kreacher snapped.

“Yes! Especially for me. I had a happy family to tend.” Mippy moved away. “When our masters is happy, we is happy.” She tugged her ear. “Happy master, happy life.”

Kreacher stared after her, then smiled. Perhaps she was right.
