Severus sighed. Weddings could be so...interminable. Still, it was a historic occasion. He hid a yawn as the priest lectured the gathered people about love and fidelity.
Harry, seated beside Severus, rested his hand on Severus’ thigh. That electric touch chased away his boredom and, revived, Severus placed his hand over Harry’s and concentrated on the ceremony.
Once the vows had been exchanged, and the happy couple had kissed, everyone retired to the garden, where the reception was to take place. Severus, trailing behind Harry, thought longingly of his experimental potion that he’d left under a Stasis Charm at home. Perhaps if I claim to be indisposed I can pop home--
“Are you all right?” Harry asked, tightening his fingers on Severus’ and bringing him back to the present. “You seem far away.”
“Not far enough,” Severus murmured, smirking as Harry rolled his eyes. “I agreed to attend this...event. I did not agree to enjoy it.”
Shaking his head, Harry dragged him towards the beverage station. “You could if you’d let yourself.”
“Humph.” Severus accepted a glass of champagne before looking around at the other guests. Molly and Arthur were dancing, Minerva and Horace were chatting in a corner, even Lucius and Narcissa looked content. Idly, Severus wondered if Draco had drugged the wine.
“They’re the last,” said Harry softly.
Severus glanced at him. “What do you mean?”
Harry leaned into him. “Draco and Ginny are the last of our friends to get married.” He shook his head. “A three-year courtship. Wow.”
Severus hummed. “Indeed.” He smirked. “I imagine their courtship was that long because it took Lucius and Arthur that long to agree not to hex each other.”
Harry laughed. “You’re probably right. But everything’s fine now. The Weasleys and Malfoys are now one big, happy family.”
“So it seems.”
In that moment Draco and Ginevra entered the garden to claps and cheers. Soft music started in the background and, beaming, Draco drew a radiant Ginevra into his arms. As they began to dance, Harry murmured, “They do look happy, though.”
“Indeed,” Severus agreed, his arm going around Harry.
Others began moving onto the dance floor and, eyes glittering, Harry took Severus’ glass from him, setting it aside. He smiled, inclining his head towards the dancers. “Shall we?”
Forgetting all thoughts of leaving, Severus led Harry onto the dance floor. Arms locked in tango position, they stared deeply into each other’s eyes, the world falling away as they danced.
It wasn’t until someone tapped Severus on the shoulder that he tore his gaze away from Harry and looked at Lucius, who smiled. “Draco and Ginevra are about to take their leave, Severus. We thought you’d like to bid them well on their honeymoon.”
“Of course.” Severus followed Lucius to where Draco and Ginevra were standing, Harry close beside him.
“Severus. Harry.” Draco smirked, leaning close to Severus. “That was some dance. You rather stole the spotlight.”
Severus raised an eyebrow. “We do enjoy the tango. Anyway, do enjoy your honeymoon, Draco. And congratulations.”
“Thanks.” Draco glanced at Harry, who was chatting quietly with Ginevra. “If you and Potter can make it work, I’m sure Ginny and I can manage, despite the naysayers.”
Severus smiled. “No one had as many naysayers as we did. You’ll be fine.”
Harry slipped his hand into Severus’, joining their conversation. “Yes you will. Congratulations, Draco.”
“Thanks, Potter.” With Genevra’s hand tucked in his arm, Draco picked up a small, chipped teacup, and they disappeared.
“Portkey to Tahiti,” Lucius said, turning away. “Feel free to continue dancing.”
Pulling Harry close, Severus smiled. “Oh, I think we’ll continue this at home.”
“Guess you don’t think weddings are that bad now, do you?” Harry laughed as Severus dragged him towards the Apparation point.
Severus smirked. “They’re...acceptable.”
