Holmes to His Watson
~
“Are you ever coming to bed, Severus?”
Severus looked up from his notes. “What?” He glanced at the clock, surprised to see it was after midnight. “Yes, yes of course. I was just documenting the effects of some new ingredients. I’ve three more to trace--”
Harry smiled, leaning against the doorframe. “You are such a detective. You’re the potions equivalent of Sherlock Holmes.”
“Is that so?” Setting aside his notes, Severus rose. “And I suppose that makes you my Watson?”
Harry shrugged. “Who’s Watson?”
“Sherlock Holmes’ partner.” Severus moved closer. “They worked together as investigators, although there were rumours of a romance.”
“Rumours?” Harry frowned. “I thought they were just characters in a set of books.”
“In the Muggle world perhaps.” Severus drew Harry into his arms.
“You’re saying that Sherlock Holmes was a wizard?” Harry shook his head. “Next you’ll tell me that Alice in Wonderland was a real person, too--”
Severus kept a straight face. “She was. And hers is such a tragic story.”
Harry’s eyes narrowed. “You’re joking.”
“Am I?” Severus dipped his head, nuzzling Harry’s neck. “Are you sure?”
“No.” Harry sighed, his arms sliding around Severus’ waist. “Right, tell me about Sherlock and Watson, then.”
“What about them?” Severus traced the tip of Harry’s ear with his tongue.
“They...actually...lived?” Harry whispered.
“Indeed.” Severus dragged his teeth gently over Harry’s neck. “Sherlock was a brilliant Unspeakable. Watson was an Auror who got injured in the line of duty. They solved many cases together.”
“And were lovers?” Harry’s hands had slid under Severus’ shirt and were caressing his skin.
“So it was rumoured.” Severus slipped his thigh between Harry’s legs.
“But how did the...Muggles hear about...them?” Harry gasped, arching up against Severus.
Severus smiled. “The same way they always do. Some enterprising wizard wrote a book and made a ridiculous amount of money in the Muggle world.”
Harry shivered. “I hope no one ever writes one about me.”
“We can only hope,” Severus murmured. He kissed the corner of Harry’s mouth. “Now, if your curiosity about Sherlock has been assuaged, perhaps we could concentrate on us?”
Harry smiled and, reaching up, he snogged Severus mercilessly. They were both panting when they parted. “Definitely.”
