“You want to throw me a what now?”
Hermione giggled. “It’s traditional, Harry. Everyone who gets married should have a shower to celebrate. I know Ron has some stag night thing planned, but I thought it would be fun if we girls had our chance, too.”
Harry frowned. “Isn’t this a bride thing?” He crossed his arms. “I am not a bride.”
“No, of course you’re not.” Hermione coughed.
Harry raised an eyebrow. “Are you throwing one of these for Severus, too?”
Her eyes widened. “Definitely not. This isn’t his kind of...event, really.”
“Not masculine enough?” Harry deadpanned.
Hermione patted his arm. “Look, it’s got nothing to do with gender roles, all right? We just want to throw you a party to celebrate your upcoming nuptials. Please let us.”
And, since Harry couldn’t say no, that was how he ended up seated in a chair festooned with ribbons and balloons, wearing an impromptu hat fashioned out of wrapping paper and even more ribbon. He was surrounded by gifts, several of which he had already opened. Most of them had proved quite risqué.
Holding up the tiniest pair of red thong underwear he’d ever seen, Harry blushed as everyone else giggled. “There’s no way I’m wearing this.”
“I suppose you could make Snape wear it,” Ginny laughed. “I don’t think they’re his colour, though.”
Harry rolled his eyes. “Shut it, you.” He smirked. “Although you should know, red actually suits him quite well.”
Grinning as Ginny gaped, Hermione handed Harry another glass of wine. “I’m sure it does. So, who’s next?”
As the rest of the girls argued good-naturedly, Luna tapped Harry on the arm. “You should open this one next,” she said, passing Harry a package covered in orange paper. “I hope you like it, Harry. I think it will be very useful.”
Harry made short work of the paper. But when he’d unwrapped it and it turned out to be a feather duster, he frowned. “Um, Luna?”
“It’s a feather duster,” she said helpfully.
Harry smiled. “Er, yes, I know that. But why are you giving it to me as a wedding gift?”
She tilted her head. “Well for sex, of course. Some men are very sensitive to having a feather duster dragged over their skin.” She got a faraway look in her eyes. “Very sensitive.”
Harry choked. “Um, well, thanks, then.”
“You’re welcome.” Patting his arm, she wandered away.
“Aren’t you glad you came, Harry?” Hermione asked once all the gifts had been unwrapped.
He sighed. “It was weird, but oddly fun.”
She smiled. “Well, I know you haven’t had many parties thrown for you, so I thought you’d appreciate this.”
Touched, Harry hugged her. “It’s been great. Thanks.”
He arrived home with his pockets stuffed with shrunken presents. Severus was already in bed reading. “How was the party?” he asked, looking up.
Harry shook his head. “Girls are weird. Nevertheless, it was fun.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.” Severus watched with interest as Harry emptied his pockets. “So, did you receive anything useful?”
Picking up the feather duster, Harry turned towards Severus and smiled. “I got up some interesting ideas.”
“Is that so?” Severus smirked, setting aside his book. “Well, perhaps it’s time for you to share these...ideas.”
Harry grinned, banishing his clothes. “Oh, I plan to.”
