“So how was your date?” Hermione asked.
Harry sighed. “He was nice enough, he just...wasn’t my type.”
“And what is your type?”
“I’ve no idea.” Harry stared into his cup. “I think it’s more a matter of knowing him when I see him rather than having a set type.”
Hermione coughed. “Has it occurred to you that you’re already head over heels for someone, which makes it difficult for you to appreciate anyone else?”
Harry blinked. “What? I’d know if I was in love.” He frowned. “Who do you mean?”
Sighing, Hermione patted his arm. “It’ll come to you.”
~
“....thinks I have a ‘type’.” Harry shook his head. “Isn’t that weird?”
Severus, busily brewing, didn’t look up. “You believe she’s in error?”
“Yes!” Harry paced Severus’ lab. “If I’d any type it would be--” He paused, eyes widening to stare at Severus.
“Yes--?” Severus prompted absently.
Harry cleared his throat. “I like smart men,” he said. “Dark. Tall. Brilliant.”
“Brilliant is rather specific,” Severus said. His hands were shaking, Harry noted.
“Nevertheless,” Harry whispered. “That’s the sort of man I could fall head over heels for.”
“Good luck finding this paragon.”
Harry smiled. “Oh, I shouldn’t need that much.”
~
“About time,” Ron said once Harry finished speaking. He smirked when Hermione’s and Harry’s mouths dropped open. “What? Trained observer here. Harry’s been head over heels for Snape since sixth year. I just haven’t wanted to accept it.” He sipped his drink.
Harry smiled ruefully. “You could’ve told me.”
Ron snorted. “Why would anyone take my love advice?”
“You do all right,” Hermione murmured.
Harry coughed. “Back to me?”
Hermione smiled. “Just ask him out.”
“But we’re friends! He’ll freak out.”
Ron shrugged. “He’s Snape, of course he will. But once you get past that it’ll be fine. You’ll see.”
Harry sighed. “I hope you’re right.”
~
“Twice in two days,” Severus said when Harry entered his lab. “What’s wrong? Do you wish to discuss another failed date?”
Harry sighed. “I’ve given up on those.”
“Oh?”
Severus’ stirring never faltered, but Harry sensed easing tension. How could I not have known I’m head over heels for him before this? “I think I’ve approached this the wrong way.”
“Indeed.”
“Mmhm.” Harry moved closer. “I’ve decided to ask one person out on several dates rather than several men out on single dates.”
“That’s...reasonable.”
Did Severus sound choked? Harry ploughed on. “Yes. So...would you have dinner with me?”
~
Severus stared at Harry. “Are you mocking me?”
Harry blinked. “Never!”
Severus scowled. “Who told you? Draco? I know you work with him at the Ministry--”
“Told me what?” Harry frowned. “You’re not making sense, Severus.”
“What are your intentions?” Severus snapped.
Harry flushed. “To date you.” He bit his lip. “I’ve been trying to find my perfect man and he’s been right in front of me all along.”
Severus went rigid. “Someone told you that I’m head over heels for you, didn’t they?” he hissed. “This is low, even for you. Get out.”
Boldly, Harry reached for him. “No.”
~
“What are you--?” Severus’ mouth was soft beneath Harry’s, and it only took him seconds to start kissing Harry back. When Harry finally pulled away, Severus looked gratifyingly dazed.
“Now do you believe me?” Harry asked.
Severus drew back, looking searchingly into Harry’s eyes. “Evidently I must.” The corner of his mouth turned upward. “You’re quite persuasive.”
Harry grinned back. “So you’re head over heels for me, hm?”
Severus huffed. “If you’re expecting me to repeat it--”
“I am. Eventually.” Harry pressed closer. “Especially as I’m totally head over heels for you, too.”
“Indeed.” Severus smiled. “That’s only right, then.”

Date: 2013-10-06 10:27 pm (UTC)And I suspect Harry knew Severus well enough to know that he'd have to *show* him what he was feeling. :)
Thanks, my dear!
And yay for the birds! ♥

Date: 2013-10-10 07:29 pm (UTC)I adored Severus in this story. He's so obviously in love and also so obviously determined to hide it from Harry that I could literally feel his misery every time he had to listen to Harry's tales of dating woes.
I loved the vignette when Harry finally realized precisely what kind of man would be his type and I couldn't believe Severus failed to associate that one obvious clue:'brilliant' with himself.
Harry's bold approach to declaring his affection to his love was just perfect for a gryffindor and Sev's suspicious reaction ran equally to character. Harry's decision to shut him up with a kiss was the perfect ending to a thoroughly lovely tale of cluelessness and romance that left me smiling from ear to ear. Gorgeous, gorgeous, story. A truly pleasurable read, ali.:)

Date: 2013-10-12 10:04 pm (UTC)*nods* Severus did suffer rather silently, didn't he? (A sure sign he's in love!) Happily, he didn't have to listen to too much once Harry caught on. :)
Harry will always be bold, bless him. *laughs* And suspicious!Severus never stood a chance. *g*
Thank you, my dear! I'm just thrilled that I managed to give you a smile. :)

Date: 2013-10-26 06:40 pm (UTC)Yes, I do like making Ron and Hermione supportive whenever possible. I just think that given all that the three of them endured during the war, they'd understand how important it is to Harry to be happy and loved, no matter who it turns out gives that to him. :)
Ahahaha! Draco will be fine, he always is. *G*
