Onwards and Upwards

“...wanted to experiment on Teddy!”

Andromeda frowned. “Actually, it sounds as if he was just ensuring Teddy didn’t need his help.”

Remus sighed. “I suppose.”

“Didn’t Teddy mimic his nose? Sounds like they bonded.” Andromeda smiled. “The Severus Snape I remember wouldn’t have tolerated mimicry. He’s mellowed.”

“But--”

“But you fancy him and you expected him to read your mind.”

“Maybe I overreacted,” Remus murmured, flushing.

Andromeda bounced Teddy on her lap. “Well, that should be easy to fix. Just apologise so you can move onwards and upwards.”

Remus coughed. “He’s still Severus Snape.”

Andromeda hummed. “Perhaps I can help--”

Tensing upon hearing the doorbell, Remus braced himself as the parlour door opened.

“Lupin?” Severus sounded hesitant. “I didn’t expect you here.”

Remus faced him. “I wasn’t sure you’d respond to my invitation, so I asked Andromeda to do it.”

Severus cleared his throat. “I’m glad she did since I’ve something to say to you.”

Remus sighed. “May I speak first?”

Severus nodded. “Proceed.”

“I’m sorry. I...overreacted. I realise now that you were simply concerned for Teddy.”

Severus blinked. “I, too, must apologise. I was...inappropriate.”

Exhaling, Remus smiled. “So we can move onwards and upwards from here?”

“Indeed.”
