That Special Someone
~
Harry stepped through the Floo just as Andromeda was becoming frantic. “Thank goodness,” she said, thrusting Teddy at him.
Smiling apologetically, Harry accepted the toddler as Andromeda rushed around the room, gathering her things. “Sorry I’m late. I had to let Severus know I wouldn’t be seeing him this afternoon.”
Andromeda stopped. “I interrupted a date? Oh, Harry--”
“Oh no!” Harry smiled. “It’s wasn’t anything. We’re not...well it was nothing special, really.”
Andromeda narrowed her eyes. I bet Severus thinks it was. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
“Sure.” Harry set Teddy down. “Let’s play, buddy. Okay?”

Once Harry made Teddy lunch, they settled in to play. Teddy loved Quidditch, so Andromeda had bought him a Quidditch board game. It was his favourite game. Truth be told, Harry enjoyed it, too.
“Unca Hawwy, what’s ‘petal’?”
Harry, concentrating on the game, blinked. “You mean ‘special’?”
Teddy nodded.
He must’ve heard us earlier. “It means something that’s precious. You know how you love your purple puppy toy?”
Teddy clutched the toy a bit tighter.
Harry smiled. “Like that. Special.”
Teddy tilted his head. “Then Unca Sev’us is ‘petal’,” he declared.
Harry froze. “You know,” he said finally. “You’re right.”

“...asleep, and I cleaned up the kitchen.” Harry smiled at Andromeda. “Did everything go okay?”
Andromeda nodded. “My petition was accepted! Teddy’s officially my child.”
“Congratulations!” Hugging her, Harry murmured, “Although now you’ll need another excuse to see Kingsley on a regular basis.”
Andromeda blushed. “He’s already asked me out.”
Harry beamed. “Congratulations again, then! Right, I’ll be off.”
Andromeda coughed. “Maybe you should visit Severus.”
Harry blinked. “Why?”
“Well, you’d plans to and it’s still early.” Andromeda smiled. “Plus, I’d say he’d find a special trip just to see him very...encouraging.”
Harry blushed. “Um--”
“Go.” Andromeda winked. “Enjoy.”

“Harry.” Severus looked pleased to see him. “I thought you had unexpected babysitting duties.”
“I did, but I’m done.” Harry regarded Severus with new eyes. He knew this man, his likes, his dislikes. Their time together was precious to him. Bloody hell, I love him.
“What’s wrong?” Severus asked.
Trembling, Harry sidled closer. “Nothing. Have dinner with me? Unless you’ve plans.”
“Only with you.” Severus placed a Stasis Charm on his potion. “Dinner’s acceptable.”
“How about a date?” Harry whispered.
Severus froze.
“Severus--”
“Also acceptable.” Severus drew Harry close. “Infinitely so.”
And as their lips touched, Harry smiled. Special indeed.

Date: 2013-12-26 05:17 pm (UTC)I loved how Andromeda was not so subtly rooting for Severus all along and managed to open Harry's eyes to the true nature of his feelings. It's nice to see someone fighting on Sev's corner for once... Wonderful piece for the prompt at hand, ali. I enjoyed reading it greatly.
I hope you had a lovely holiday and I sincerely wish that the coming New Year turns out to be better for you than this one seems to have been. :D

And yes, Harry can be peculiarly blind when it comes to certain things. Still, he figured it out eventually (with help), bless him. :)
