Accepting the Invitation

“Lovely event,” Minerva said. “Aren’t you glad you accepted the invitation?”
Severus snorted. “Typical Ministry nonsense. Bad champagne and dry cheese make no difference.”
“War heroes can, however.” Minerva nodded towards the buffet. “Look, Harry attended.”
Severus looked. Potter, handsome in formal robes, was surrounded by people. “Naturally. He loves attention.”
“I don’t think so.” Minerva inclined her head. “Seems to me he’s avoiding it.”
Blinking, Severus saw Potter extricate himself from the group and move towards a balcony. Just before he slipped outside, he glanced over his shoulder and stared meaningfully at Severus.
Minerva chuckled. “Talk about an invitation.”
~
This is insane, Severus thought, walking onto the balcony. Bathed in moonlight, it was an invitation to romance. Snorting mentally, Severus looked for Potter. Perhaps he didn’t actually mean--
“Over here,” someone said, and Severus moved around a wall. There, leaning over the railing, was Potter. He straightened up once Severus drew closer. “I’m glad you came.”
“Indeed?” Severus looked out over the alley charmed to look like a garden.
“Of course.” Potter smiled. “You’re why I attend these things.”
Severus blinked. “What?”
Potter’s smile deepened. “Knew I’d have to show you,” he murmured and, leaning in, he kissed Severus.
~
Potter’s mouth was an invitation to sin, one Severus eagerly accepted. Never thinking he’d have an opportunity to touch Potter, much less kiss him, he took advantage, exploring Potter’s mouth, gathering him close to caress every part of his body available.
And Potter certainly didn’t object. He gave as good as he got, arching against Severus, attempting to rock closer.
When Severus finally withdrew, Potter licked his lips and smiled. “I’ve wanted to do that for ages.”
“I see.” Severus cleared his throat. “I’m why you’ve been attending these events?”
“Mostly, yes.”
Severus smirked. “Interested in leaving?”
Potter smiled. “Definitely.”
~
“Ah, you made it, gentlemen.” Kingsley eyed Severus and Harry. “And I assume you’re the reason that Severus has decided to start accepting more of the Ministry’s invitations, Harry?”
Harry blushed, his grip tightening on Severus’ hand. “You could say that.”
Kingsley laughed. Leaning in, he whispered, “Trust me, I understand. The only reason I attend these things is because my wife...rewards me afterwards.”
Severus raised an eyebrow. “Indeed.”
Kingsley nodded. “Enjoy your evening.”
Once they were alone, Harry nodded towards the balcony. “Well, we’ve made our official appearance. Would you like your reward now?”
Severus smirked. “Most definitely.”
