Failing at Flirtation
~
After an awkward tea at Andromeda Tonks’, devoid of innuendo, smouldering looks, or flirtation of any kind, Severus hadn’t known what to expect from Lupin. So when Lupin appeared at Severus’ clinic the following week and he seemed...subdued, Severus wasn’t sure what to do.
“Is something amiss?” Severus asked. “Are you intolerant to the formula? Are you having new symptoms?”
Lupin smiled faintly. “No, everything’s fine with the formula. And I’ve had no new symptoms.” Lupin seemed hesitant as he spoke, however.
“Something’s obviously wrong,” Severus said. “Tell me.”
Lupin exhaled. “All right. Do you fancy me or not?”
~
Severus froze. “I...Well you see--”
Lupin laughed darkly. “This is why I didn’t want to say anything. I apologise if I’ve embarrassed you. It’s just...you’ve been giving off mixed signals, so if I misunderstood--”
“You didn’t misunderstand,” interrupted Severus. “I’m simply not good at flirtation.”
A gentle hand on his arm made Severus look up. Lupin’s expression was serious. “Nor am I. Smouldering looks across the room and flirtation are for younger men. I’d rather know what you’re feeling.”
Severus coughed. “I...well--”
Smiling, Lupin said, “Why don’t we try something different?” and pulling Severus close, kissed him.
