Sunday Night Rec

So as I was trolling my Flist this afternoon procrastinating trying to get inspired to write, I encountered a Lucius/Narcissa fic at hprarepairs. Now this is NOT my pairing. TBH, most canon het pairings leave me cold, but something made me click and I am SO GLAD I DID.

Mark of Cain by deslea (link goes to AO3) is told from a young and certainly more innocent Narcissa's perspective. She's a newlywed who hopes that the arranged marriage she finds herself in can turn to love. Lucius isn't making it easy, however.
This, I have decided, is my new head canon for the Malfoys. It makes so much sense and makes me feel for them.
Just a beautiful study of a young couple for whom everything should have been perfect, yet is not.
Sadly I can't do this one justice, so my suggestion is that you go read. Even if you don't like this pairing you should give it a try. I really don't think you'll regret it.
