“So you’ll help me?” Molly wrung her hands, and Kingsley, unable to tell her no, nodded.
“I’ll see what I can do,” he said. “Although, if Bill’s determined to drink himself to death, perhaps Arthur’s better suited to--”
Molly sighed. “His hands are full with George. As are mine with Ginny.”
“Ginny?” Kingsley frowned.
“Well she’s very...disappointed about Harry deciding to take up with Snape--”
“Ah yes.” Kingsley rose. “That surprised many.” Although not me. “Where’s Bill now?”
Molly made a face. “He’s on another pub crawl.”
“Any favourite haunts?”
Molly nodded, reaching into her robes. “Here’s a list.”
~
Immediately upon entering the third pub on Molly’s list, Kingsley spotted Bill, his arm around a buxom blonde who bore a passing resemblance to Fleur.
Sighing, Kingsley approached. “Bill?”
Bill beamed. “Kingsley!” he cried, shrugging off the blonde, who pouted for a moment before rolling her eyes and transferring her attention to another patron. “Good to see you! Come to drink with me on my pub crawl?”
“Your mother sent me,” Kingsley said, not surprised to see Bill’s expression close.
“She should mind her business,” Bill muttered, peering into his tankard.
“You are her business.”
Bill huffed. “And yours?”
“Apparently.”
~
“I knew Fleur’d leave eventually,” Bill slurred. “Everyone does.”
“Not everyone.”
Bill laughed bitterly. “You couldn’t prove that by me.”
Kingsley sighed. Unable to extract Bill from the pub, he’d decided to stay there and talk with him. At least he’s staying here. I couldn’t manage a true pub crawl tonight. “I thought that Fleur left because of her issues, not yours.”
“Girls always say that! It’s never true.”
“Actually, sometimes it is.”
Bill snorted. “I should stick with men.” Focussing on Kingsley he licked his lips. “So, what are you doing later tonight?”
“Talking to you.”
“Just talking?”
“Definitely.”
~
“Aww, c’mon.” Bill whinged as Kingsley tucked him into bed. “Let’s fuck!”
Ignoring how adorable he was, Kingsley shook his head. “No.”
“Why not?” Bill tried to sit up but was unsuccessful. “You want to, I can tell.”
Perceptive. “You’d hate yourself in the morning,” Kingsley said. “And I don’t fuck people who can’t say no.”
“I’m saying yes!”
“Once your head’s on straight, if you decide you still want me, I’m here,” Kingsley said softly. “But no more pub crawls. I like my partners sober and aware.”
Bill’s only answer was a soft snore. Sighing, Kingsley let himself out.
~
“I don’t know if it worked,” Kingsley said to Molly the next morning. “But I spoke with him.”
Molly, her face floating in the Floo, smiled. “I appreciate it, Kingsley. Thanks for trying.”
“Of course.” Once she closed the connection, Kingsley leaned back in his chair and stared out the window. Bill’s blatant offer had been more tempting than he’d first realised. He’d spend the night tossing and turning, dreaming about pub crawls and seducing men at each stop. Except everyone I seduced looked like Bill.
Shaking his head to clear it, Kingsley started his paperwork. But he was distracted.
~
When someone knocked on Kingsley’s door later that day, he’d forgotten about Bill. Almost. “Come in.”
“I’m here to apologise.”
Kingsley blinked upon seeing Bill. “Why’s that?”
“My performance last night.” Bill made a face. “May I sit?”
Kingsley gestured. “You owe me nothing. You do owe it to your family to sober up, though. They need you, especially now. The pub crawls have to stop.”
Bill sighed. “They will.” He coughed. “That wasn’t why I came, though.”
“Why did you?”
“I was serious about my...proposition.” Bill caught and held Kingsley’s gaze. “I want you.”
Kingsley smiled. “Prove it.”
~
“Bill! Kingsley! How wonderful!” Leaning up, Molly kissed Kingsley’s cheek. “Thanks for making Bill a regular at Sunday dinner,” she whispered as Bill greeted his siblings.
Kingsley smiled at her. “You’re welcome, Molly.”
She beamed. “Come, dinner’s ready.”
After greeting everyone, including Snape and Harry, Kingsley settled beside Bill at the table. “This is much more fun than a pub crawl, isn’t it?” he murmured.
Bill chuckled. “Fine, rub it in. Yes it is.” He pressed against Kingsley. “It’s much nicer crawling into bed with you when we get home.”
Kingsley laughed. “Well, I do believe in rewarding good behaviour.”
