Standing back, Neville inspected the floral arrangement with a critical eye. When arms wrapped around him, he smiled. “How does it look?”
“Very artistic,” Ernie murmured, kissing to Neville’s neck. “Mum’ll love it. And you.”
“You think?” Neville smiled. “I’m nervous about meeting your parents.”
“Don’t be.” Ernie rested his chin on Neville’s shoulder. “They’re excited to meet you. And Dad’s a sword connoisseur. He’ll want to know everything about the sword of Gryffindor.”
Neville laughed. “It was all a blur.”
“I’m sure. Still, they’re excited to meet you.” Ernie’s arms tightened. “And I’m excited to show you to them.”

Mrs MacMillian exclaimed over Neville’s flowers, and Mr MacMillian listened to his descriptions of Gryffindor’s sword with rapt attention. Dinner was delicious, and dessert, chocolate cake, spectacular.
Afterward, Ernie took Neville for a walk. The gardens were impressive, even in the dark. “Wow, are these night blooming gardenias?” Neville asked. “Very artistic placement.”
Ernie laughed. “You really think we came out here to look at flowers, don’t you?”
Neville smiled. “Oh, I know why we’re out here.” He glanced at the house. “But someone may see--”
“It’ll be fine,” Ernie said, pulling Neville close. “They know why we’re here, too.”

“Now I’m nervous,” Ernie muttered, entering Longbottom Manor.
“Don’t worry,” Neville teased. “Gran’s done your genealogy. She was impressed.”
“My genealogy?” Ernie frowned. “But why? We can’t procreate--”
“There’s always adoption,” said Augusta. “Although perhaps we’re getting ahead of ourselves? Augusta Longbottom.”
Embarrassed, Ernie nevertheless introduced himself, handing her flowers. Neville, meanwhile, relaxed. Clearly, Augusta liked Ernie.
After dinner, Neville offered a tour of the house. Upon entering the library, Ernie gaped. “Brilliant! The artistic book placement--”
“You can’t think we’re here to read?” Neville winked.
Ernie laughed. “I hope we’re here to snog.”
Neville pulled him close. “Smart man.”
