Open to Possibilities

“So?” Harry asked, looking at Padma expectantly.
Lowering her wand, she shook her head. “You’re not pregnant, Harry.” She bit her lip as his face fell. “Which pregnancy portion are you using?”
Harry shrugged. “It’s something Severus brews.”
She smiled. “Of course. What does it taste like?”
“Apples.” Harry pursed his lips. “With a hint of grass.”
Padma nodded. “I’m familiar with that one. It’s a solid choice. Which incantation are you using?”
“Nimue’s.”
“Also good.” Padma patted his arm before closing her notebook. “I wouldn’t worry. It’ll happen.”
Harry nodded, suppressing his disappointment. We’ll just have to try harder.

“I saw Padma today,” Harry said over dinner.
Severus nodded. “What did Healer Patil have to say?”
“I’m not pregnant.” Harry sighed as Severus closed his eyes. “She thinks it’s only a matter of time, though.”
“Indeed. Did she have any suggestions?”
“More practice?” Severus raised an eyebrow and Harry, grinning, blushed. “Okay, so maybe that’s just my suggestion.”
“And a valid one,” Severus murmured. “Although I was hoping she’d have some ideas about how I could further tweak the pregnancy potion.”
Harry shook his head. “She said it’s a solid choice.”
Severus sighed. “Perhaps we should consult another expert.”

“Molly.” Harry, fingers closing over Severus’ hand, smiled at her. “Thanks for coming. How are you?”
Emerging from the Floo, Molly smiled. “I’m fine, but I doubt you invited me for casual conversation.”
Severus smirked. “Indeed.” Over tea, he got to the point. “As you may know, Harry and I have plans.”
Molly smiled. “You’re trying to get pregnant, you mean?”
Harry sighed. “Did Ron tell you?”
“Ginny, actually.” Molly chuckled at Severus’ scowl. “This is what happens when you’re part of a large family.”
“But it’s not working,” Harry blurted.
Molly blinked, then smiled. “Then I’ve just the thing.”

“This is ridiculous!” exclaimed Harry.
Severus tilted his head. “The view’s certainly...inspiring, however.”
Harry glared at him. “We can’t make love like this!”
“Without magic it would be difficult,” admitted Severus. “Fortunately, we have that available to us.” Floating into the air, he grasped Harry’s hips.
Harry giggled as Severus struggled to get into position. “You really think this is how Molly and Arthur conceived Charlie?”
“I suspect,” Severus panted, “that this is her way of telling us to relax and have fun while we try.”
“Hm.” Closing his eyes, Harry smiled. “I guess it’s worth a shot.”
“Indeed.”

Harry collapsed beside Severus. “We should try making love upside down next,” he giggled.
Severus chuckled. “With all that blood rushing to our....heads? That position’s not high on my list.”
Harry laughed, closing his eyes. “Or we could adopt.” He’d meant it teasingly, but it came out sounding serious, and entwined as he was with Severus, Harry felt his body tense.
“Is that what you want?” Severus finally whispered.
Leaning up, Harry stared into Severus’ eyes. “I wouldn’t mind. In fact, maybe we should pursue both. There are lots of war orphans.”
Slowly, Severus nodded. “That could be...acceptable.”

“So?” Harry asked, looking at Padma expectantly.
