Face to Face

“Finally decided to face me?” Hermione asked as Harry entered his flat.
Surprised to see her, Harry jumped. “Hermione!”
Chuckling, she stood up. “I was ready to interrogate you about all this time you’re spending with Snape, but since that’s not my business and it’s obvious you’re happy, I’ll just say I’m happy for you.”
Harry exhaled. “Thanks, Hermione.”
“You should know, though, we expect you and Snape for dinner next week.”
Harry’s eyes widened. “But--”
“No excuses. You’ve spent every spare moment with him. It’s time we all become friends.”
“Friends?” Harry blinked.
Hermione smiled. “See you both soon.”

“Dinner?” A surprised look crossed Severus’ face. “With your friends?”
Harry nodded. “Hermione invited me when I got home from our...brilliant first date.”
Severus smirked. “It was memorable, wasn’t it?”
Heat flared in Harry’s gut as he recalled all they’d done that night. And weekend. He shifted closer. “Definitely.”
“Better than this evening?” Severus purred.
Harry chuckled. “Well, the night’s not over.”
“True.” Severus pulled Harry closer. “Do really you wish for me to do this?”
“Only if you want to.” Harry held his breath.
“Perhaps you can persuade me.”
Harry grinned, straddling Severus. “Actually, I believe I can.”

“Snape. Harry. Welcome.” Hermione stepped aside, gesturing. Behind her stood Ginny, Ron and Neville, looks of curiosity, suspicion and trepidation on their faces respectively. “We’re glad you could visit.”
“Indeed.” Severus looked strained.
“Thanks.” Harry, clinging to Severus’ hand, dragged him inside. “Something smells delicious.”
Hermione smiled. “Thanks. I’ve some wine. Would you like a glass?”
“Definitely,” murmured Severus.
Harry bit back a grin.
By the time dinner was ready, things were more...relaxed. Severus even unbent enough to talk about Herbology with Neville.
“He’s...different,” whispered Hermione to Harry. “Better.”
Harry blushed. “Definitely.”
She smiled. “I’m happy for you.”

“That went well,” said Severus as they left.
“You sound surprised.” Harry looked up at him. “What did you think would happen?”
“I expected Ronald to interrogate me, Ginevra to glare, and Ms Granger to weigh my every word.” Severus’ face twisted. “And I’d no idea Longbottom would be present.”
“Neville’s dating Ginny,” Harry said, lacing their fingers together as they walked. “And there was no way she’d have missed tonight.” He smiled. “Ron and Hermione just want to see me happy. Neville, too. They’re my friends, after all.”
“But not mine.”
Leaning up, Harry kissed him. “Give them time.”
