“So you and Potter, hm?” Pansy sipped her champagne. “I suppose it was inevitable.”
“And just what does that mean?” Draco glared at her.
“You always were too vehement in denying interest in him.” Reaching up, Pansy patted his face. “Plus, you’d stars in your eyes every time he walked by.”
“I did not--”
“You did.” Pansy smiled. “But it’s okay. I’m happy for you, darling. Now, you should go and protect your investment.”
Draco frowned. “What?”
Pansy tilted her head. “Someone’s moving in on your man.”
Draco spun, spotting Ginny Weasley leaning close to Harry. “Oh no she isn't.”

“...be quite romantic under the stars,” Draco heard Ginny murmur as he approached.
“Weasley.” Draco’s voice was frigid.
Harry’s eyes widened. Clearly recognising Draco’s mood, Harry drew him close. “Draco,” Harry said, sliding his arm about Draco’s waist. “Shall we take a walk?”
Ginny shot an assessing look at Draco before smirking. “Have fun.”
“What was that all about?” Draco snapped, slightly mollified as Harry snagged a couple of champagne glasses from a passing tray.
“She had some suggestions.”
Draco’s eyes narrowed. “About?”
Harry smiled. “Things. Right, come on.”
Leaving the Ministry ball was fine with Draco. “Fine. Lead on.”

The night sky was dotted with stars. Draco had to admit that it was very romantic. He wasn’t about to be distracted, however. “What suggestions did Weasley have?” he asked.
Harry set aside their champagne. “I asked her advice about something, and she gave me her opinion.”
“Since when do you ask other people’s opinions about anything?”
Harry smiled. “When something’s important enough I do.”
Draco’s heart sank. “If it’s that important, why aren’t you asking me?”
Harry clasped Draco’s hand. “Because I’ve a far more important question for you.” And, to Draco’s shock, he got down on one knee.
~
“Harry?” Draco whispered, trembling. Harry reached into his formal robes, extracting a box. “I’ve been carrying this around for months trying to decide on the best way to ask you this, Draco, and I can’t wait any longer. Will you marry me?”
Draco swallowed around the lump in his throat. “Yes,” he finally managed. “Of course.”
Harry’s grin was so bright it eclipsed the shining stars overhead. Jumping to his feet, he pulled Draco close, kissing him deeply. “You really must love me,” he finally whispered against Draco’s mouth.
“Why’s that?” Draco murmured.
“You didn’t even look at the ring.”
