Successful Matchmaking

“Salazar! You’ve feelings for Potter.” Draco shook his head. “I should have guessed, really. You...blather when he’s in the room.”
Severus scowled. “I don’t blather.”
Draco smirked. “You do around Potter.”
“Ridiculous.”
“Oh, no one else has noticed, don’t worry.” Draco inspected his nails. “He likes you, too, actually.”
“What?” Severus stared at Draco, denial forgotten.
“He’s easier to read than you are and he’s got a crush. Has for a while now.” Draco rose, sauntering towards the door. “Shall I speak to him for you?”
“Absolutely not!”
“I’m a great matchmaker.”
“I said no.”
Draco nodded. “Suit yourself.”
~
“You took the report downstairs already?” Harry asked when Draco returned to their office.
Draco nodded. “I needed to talk to Severus.”
“Oh?” Harry was clearly trying to seem nonchalant. “About what?”
“Something personal. So, did you get our new assignment?”
“Robards brought it around, yes.”
“And?”
Harry sighed, pushing the parchment at Draco. “It’s filled with the usual official blather, but as far as I can tell, we’re looking into a potion smuggling ring.”
“Another one?” Draco rolled his eyes. “Why do they always give us those cases? It’s not as if we request them.”
Harry flushed. “No idea.”
~
“Smuggling’s your area of interest, isn’t it?” Robards eyed Draco over his glasses. “Potter specifically requests those cases.”
I knew it! Draco coughed. “I suppose so.”
Robards frowned. “Is this a prelude to you asking for a reassignment? Because whatever your personal problems, your team success rate is the highest in the department--”
“Not at all,” Draco denied. “We have no personal issues.”
“Good to know the office blather’s wrong about something.” Robards looked down at his reports. “Was there anything else?”
“No, sir.” Exiting Robards’ office, Draco sighed. Now to get those two to stop tiptoeing around each other.
~
“I won’t trick Harry into anything,” Granger snapped.
Draco tamped down his irritation at her typical, Gryffindor stubbornness. “I’m not suggesting we trick him, just give him and Severus the opportunity to see the truth.” Draco leaned forward. “Surely you’ve noticed they’re both interested?”
Granger sighed. “I thought he’d outgrow it once the war ended, but it’s obvious now that-”
“Enough blather,” Draco interrupted. “Will you help or not?”
“What’s in it for you?”
Draco held her gaze. “My partner’s and my godfather’s happiness.”
She blushed. “Fine.”
Draco hid his smirk. Plus, I get to spend time with you, gorgeous.
~
“Take this report to Severus, would you?” Draco levitated it across the desk to Harry.
Harry quickly stood. “You’re sure? You generally like to deliver them--”
“I’m positive.” Draco waved a hand. “And then we’re done for the day. See you tomorrow.”
“Yeah, okay.” Harry, looking far too eager, skipped out the door.
Draco smirked and, tapping his wand against Granger’s communication coin, whispered, “The lion’s on its way to the serpent’s den.”
“Oh for-- Quit blathering,” came Granger’s crisp voice.
Draco smiled. “Ready?”
“Naturally.”
“Would you like...company?”
There was a pause. “All right.”
Draco exhaled. “On my way.”
~
“Are they snogging yet?” Draco murmured, slipping into place beside Granger. She’d set up a surveillance spell that they could monitor from her desk.
She huffed. “No! Actually, I’m not convinced there’s anything to your theory--”
“Stop blathering,” Draco said. “Look!”
Looking into the crystal ball, Granger gaped. “Oh my,” she said weakly.
Severus had seized Harry and was kissing him soundly. Harry clearly wasn’t resisting.
“Told you,” Draco said, sliding his arm around her.
Granger coughed. “You’re rather close.”
“Am I?” Draco smiled into her eyes. “I’ve some other theories. Care to hear them?”
Slowly, she smiled back. “Yes.”
~
Severus is happy and so’s Harry, Draco thought, admiring his handiwork. They were holding hands, clearly unconcerned about any blather about their relationship. That worked out rather well.
“You’re pleased with yourself.”
Smiling, Draco turned to face Hermione. “I’ve every right to be, don’t you think?” He nodded towards Severus and Harry. “Look at them.”
Hermione nodded. “They look ecstatic.” She caressed his arm. “Almost as ecstatic as you looked last night.”
Draco’s breath caught. “Well, you were particularly inspired last night.”
She smirked. “I was, wasn’t I? Care to attempt a repeat?”
Severus and Harry forgotten, Draco nodded. “Definitely.”
