Saturn in Retrograde

~

“So why am I up here?” Draco asked, sounding bored. “Do you want to make me an offer I can’t refuse?”

Pansy, who was fiddling with her telescope, shot him a sharp look. “Don’t be ridiculous and why do you think I asked you to meet me here?”

Draco leaned back against the wall of the Astronomy Tower and smirked. “Well I know it’s not because you want to snog,” he finally said.

She laughed. “Oh please, as if you’ve any interest in snogging girls.”

Draco rolled his eyes. “I’ll grant you that since you were the one who told me that I was gay at age twelve.” He huffed. “And I’ll have you know that conversation completely traumatised me.”

She snorted. “Well you needed to know. It saves all sorts of heartache if you know that sort of thing up front.” Bending over, she began looking through the telescope’s lens. “And we’re up here because we need to talk.”

“About?”

“You and Potter.”

Draco froze. “What about Potter?” he asked, tone sharp.

She raised an eyebrow. “The war’s over. It’s time you moved on.”

Draco relaxed slightly. “I have moved on. I returned to this place for an ‘eighth year’ didn’t I?”

“Yes, but you still need to clear the air with Potter.” She pursed her lips. “Oh look. Saturn’s in retrograde.”

Draco blinked. “First, what in Salazar’s name does that even mean? And second, there’s no air to clear with Potter. We’ve both gone our separate ways.”

Pansy sent him a look full of pity. “Really? So is that why you’ve refused to talk to him every time he’s approached you?”

Draco crossed his arms. “What would you have me do? Fall to his feet and beg forgiveness? As you said, the war’s over, he won, I lost.”

Pansy straightened up and fixed him with a cool stare. “We all won because he did,” she said. “If that monster had succeeded--” She shuddered. “I was the most foolish of us all, coming out and trying to hand Potter over like that, but he’s forgiven me and he’d forgive you, too, if you’d let him.”

Draco’s mouth twisted. “Who says I need forgiveness for anything?”

She muttered something under her breath. “Fine, be an idiot. All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t dismiss Potter’s desire to talk.” Her tone softened. “Is it so beyond your conception that Potter may actually want to be friends?” She smiled. “Plus, since you’ve had a crush on his since you were thirteen, I’d have thought you’d want to take advantage of tha--”

“Shut up, I don’t have a crush on him!” Draco flushed, looking away. “I don’t.”

“You forget, I’m your best friend, and I know you better than anyone, even yourself at times.” She smiled, moving closer. “I was the one who had to tell you that you were gay, remember?”

Draco groaned, leaning his head back against the wall and closing his eyes. “Will you ever stop throwing that in my face? And it’s impossible.”

“Never, and no it’s not. Just talk to him.” She sighed. “Now I have to jot down some notes about Saturn being in retrograde. Which, by the way, means that the status quo is about to change in the world.”

Draco’s eyes popped open and he stared at her.

She smirked, leaning up to pat his cheek. “Why don’t you stay up here and...think about that for a bit?”

Draco sighed, but kept silent. After a moment she moved past him and he heard her descending the stairs.

Once her footsteps had faded there was a shimmer in the corner and Harry appeared. “That was interesting.”

Smiling, Draco moved towards him. “You do realise she’s take full credit once it comes out that we’re together?”

Harry laughed. “I don’t think so since Hermione had a very similar chat with me last night. She’s the one who’s going to take credit, I’m afraid.”

“Hm.” Draco hummed as Harry’s arms went around him. “There may be a fight. Should we do anything about it?”

“Nope,” was Harry’s whispered reply. And just before his mouth settled into Draco’s he murmured, “Now, what was that about not having a crush on me?”

Draco smiled against his lips. “Idiot. I’m in love with you. That’s entirely different.”

“Of course.” The kiss was searing and they were both panting as they drew apart. Harry’s eyes glittered in the dim light. “So, shall we go and shake up the status quo?”

“How?” whispered Draco.

“Sit with me at dinner.”

Draco blinked. “We’ll cause a riot.” Slowly, he smiled.

Harry leaned in, nuzzling his neck. “I promise to make it worth your while later.”

Draco laughed softly, clinging to Harry. “That sounds like an offer I’d be foolish to refuse.”
