Hotel Summer Loving
~
“That’s the yearly accounts done.” Setting aside her quill, Minerva eyed Severus. “Do you have summer plans?”
“I’m staying here.” Severus picked up his parchments. “I’ve some books set aside to read--”
“You should consider spending summer away from Hogwarts this year,” Minerva said.
Severus snorted. “I’m not the holiday sort.”
“You could be.” Smiling faintly she continued, “In fact, I think you could use some...summer loving.”
Severus gaped at her. “Minerva!”
Minerva smirked. “It’s true. You’re too young to spend the summer in a mouldy old castle. Go. Have some fun.”
Severus pursed his lips. “I’ll consider it.”
~
Dropping his bag, Harry approached the window. The ocean looked enticing, and for the first time since Hermione’d shoved him into the Floo, informing him he was going on holiday no matter what, he relaxed.
“Bimpy unpacks?”
Harry spun. “I’ll do it.” Since he wasn’t sure what Hermione’d packed for him - she’d been really determined he was going on holiday - he wanted to unpack his own things.
Bimpy’s lower lip trembled.
“Don’t punish yourself,” Harry said. “Just...what are the activities here?”
Bippy frowned. “Activities? We is Hotel Summer Loving, guest sir.”
Slowly, Harry sighed. I’m going to kill Hermione.
~
Severus sat in the hotel’s bar, brooding. Hotel Summer Loving, indeed. Ridiculous.
“May I...help you, sir?”
The woman was beautiful, if one’s tastes ran that way. Severus’ did not. “No,” he snapped.
She backed away immediately. “Of course,” she murmured. Clearly she’d been well trained. “Perhaps my colleague, John--”
A hard-eyed blond at the other end of the bar smirked.
Severus snorted. “Definitely not my type.”
“His prices are reasonable--”
Severus glared.
She hummed. “Good day.”
Alone, Severus nursed his drink, plotting revenge. And when Harry Potter appeared, he closed his eyes, cursing Minerva anew. She’s so dead.
~
Hermione’s so dead, thought Harry. Everywhere were signs that she’d sent him to a sodding couples resort. Scanning, Harry saw someone familiar-- He gaped. “Professor Snape?”
Snape sighed. “Potter. Did Minerva send you?”
“No.” Harry coughed. “Hermione didn’t send you, did she?”
Snape frowned. “No.”
Harry exhaled. “Good. May I sit?”
Snape shrugged. “Help yourself.”
Sitting, Harry ordered a Summer Loving martini. “It’s on special,” he said defensively when Snape snorted. “ So...are you here with someone?”
Snape sneered. “Obviously not.”
“Me either.” Harry spotted a blond staring. “Do you know that bloke?”
Snape shuddered. “No.”
Harry smiled, relieved. “Okay.”
~
They sat side by side and drank in companionable silence until curiosity overcame Severus. “You mentioned Ms Granger. How is she involved?”
Sighing, Potter nodded. “Claimed I needed a holiday, and then made all the arrangements.”
Severus snorted. “Do you normally allow her to run your life?”
Potter smirked. “About as much as you allow Professor McGonagall to.”
Severus blinked, then smiled. “Touché.”
Potter grinned. “So you weren’t expecting to stay at Hotel Summer Loving either?”
“Indeed not.” Severus coughed, an idea occurring to him. Would Potter agree, however? “Although, as we’re both here, perhaps we can reach an...arrangement?”
~
Harry eyed Snape. Was the man propositioning him? And why was that idea appealing? He gestured for another Summer Loving martini. “What sort of arrangement?”
“We now know what sort of place this is,” Snape said, a note of distaste in his voice. “If we stick together, we can avoid being propositioned.”
Harry nodded. “It’ll have to look authentic.”
“Indeed.” Snape turned to face him. “I assure you, Potter. As an ex-spy who was undercover twenty-four hours a day, I am fully capable of making my actions believable.”
Harry smiled. “All right. Then you can start by calling me Harry.”
~
The first inkling Severus had that his plan was working too well was when he began appreciating Harry’s jokes. He discovered they had similar senses of humour, and Harry’s observations about the staff and the amenities at Hotel Summer Loving were hilarious.
Harry was also attractive, a fact not lost on Severus, who saw the covetous looks cast his way by staff and other guests. Knowing he had to keep up appearances, he deliberately touched Harry in public, which led to him wanting to touch him in private, too.
Severus sighed. How shall I survive two more weeks of this?
~
Maybe he’s getting tired of this, Harry thought, watching Severus surreptitiously. He’d been amazed at Severus’ transformation. Gone was the bitter professor he remembered, replaced by an urbane, darkly amusing man who oozed sensuality.
Harry’s gaze dropped to Severus’ hands. He blushed. And those fingers. Merlin.
“Shall we have dinner in my room tonight?” Severus asked.
Harry blinked. “Sure.” He leaned in. “Why?”
“I thought you’d like some time out of the Hotel Summer Loving spotlight.” Severus entwined their fingers and Harry’s heart jolted as it did whenever they touched.
Harry swallowed hard as his fingers tightened on Severus’. “Brilliant.”
~
“Hotel Summer Loving’s dinner for two,” said Bimpy, presenting the intimate table setting.
“Thank you,” said Severus. “You may go.”
“Guest sirs summon Bimpy if needed.” With a pop, Bimpy disappeared.
“Wow,” said Harry. “They certainly go all out, don’t they?”
“Indeed. Unaccountably nervous, Severus helped Harry sit. “After you.”
Harry shot an uninterpretable look at him, then smiled. “Thanks.”
The menu included asparagus, oysters, strawberries and honey cake, making Severus roll his eyes.
“Not subtle, are they?” murmured Harry, humming as he bit into a strawberry.
“Indeed not.” Severus crossed his legs. It promised to be a long evening.
~
As they ate, Harry watched Severus. He was acting oddly, wavering between almost-flirtation and skittishness. Beginning to suspect Severus was interested in doing more than pretending, Harry murmured, “This asparagus is delicious.”
Severus tried some. “Not bad.”
“Try the wine.”
Severus sipped. “Acceptable.”
Harry smiled. “Summer Loving honey cake?” he purred, moaning as he bit into a slice. “Mmm.” When Severus flushed, Harry hid a grin. Gotcha!
“Perhaps I should leave.” Severus looked flustered.
Harry grasped his hand. “It’s your room,” he said gently. “And I don’t want to leave.”
Severus searched Harry’s eyes. Finally, he smiled. “As you wish.”
~
Severus hadn’t actually used the balcony since checking into Hotel Summer Loving, but somehow, with Harry beside him, it seemed the most natural thing in the world to pull Harry outside.
It was a beautiful, moonlit night, redolent of tropical flowers, but Severus didn’t care about that, not when Harry reached up to pull him down for a kiss.
Kissing morphed into them writhing together on the chaise, and as Harry arched beneath him, Severus realised he was much more invested than he’d originally thought.
Afterward, as Harry curled close, Severus clung. I’m not giving him up without a fight.
~
“Must we leave?” Harry whispered into Severus’ neck.
“Sadly, yes.” Severus’ arms tightened around Harry.
Harry smiled. He’d enjoyed the Hotel Summer Loving. Although I won’t miss Bimpy. His interest in our love life’s creepy. “Hermione’ll be smug.”
“Don’t tell her.”
Harry frowned. “Why wouldn’t I? Aren’t you planning to tell people about us?”
Severus raised an eyebrow. “And publicise my personal life?”
“Not even Professor McGonagall? She’s your friend.”
Severus hesitated. “That depends on whether this was simply a holiday fling.”
Harry kissed him. “It’s a fling I plan to continue.” Forever.
Severus sighed. “Minerva will be smug, too.”

Date: 2013-08-07 08:32 pm (UTC)This is a great trope... scheming Hermione and Minerva, united against the masses, surprising compatibility and "I’m not giving him up without a fight"
All the love :D
