“I’m not a girl, Hermione!”
Hermione, on her way into Honeydukes, smiled. “I am, in fact, aware of that, Harry. But I am a girl, and the way we deal with trauma is chocolate, so get in here and shut it.” She paused. “Or are you saying my breakup with Ron wasn’t traumatic?”
Huffing, Harry followed her inside. “Fine,” he muttered.
Hermione shook her head. “You like sweets as much as anyone. Don’t a few truffles sound good right now?”
Harry sighed. They did, actually. Resigned, he scanned the display, and froze when he saw who was behind the counter.
~
Draco adjusted his apron, trying to calm his nerves. This being his first real job, he was determined to be successful. At his Wizengamot sentencing, the Chief Mugwump had made it clear he was being let off lightly, but that any infraction would not be overlooked, so Draco knew he had to be circumspect.
It’d taken every family connection they’d had to swing a position at Honeydukes. Draco knew he was lucky. Now to learn everything I can and, one day, have my own sweet shop.
Pasting a smile onto his face, Draco turned, and fell into bright green eyes.
~
Harry’s mouth dropped open. “Draco?”
Draco seemed to be having a similarly hard time. “Harr--Potter?”
“Call me Harry,” Harry blurted. “No need for formality.”
Draco nodded, then straightened up as if recalling where he was. “Welcome to Honeydukes, Harry. Do you know what you want?”
Oh yes. Harry coughed. “I just got here--”
“Take your time.” Draco opened his mouth as if about to say something else, then shook his head and moved onto another customer.
“See anything you like, Harry--oh.” Hermione, having spotted Draco, smirked. “I see you have. I’ll just let you make your...selection, then.”
~
As he served other customers, Draco watched Harry from the corner of his eye. He looked good, really good.
The war had changed him, honed him. Gone was any semblance of childhood, replaced by a strong, determined man. Who just happens to be bloody hot.
“...Honeydukes Dark,” finished the customer.
Nodding, Draco moved to complete her order. He’d known he would probably encounter people who knew him in the shop, but he hadn’t realised it had the potential to be so...distracting.
Handing over the completed order, he exhaled. There was only one person still waiting. Right. Back to Harry.
~
Harry glared at Hermione as she left. It had been a setup. Why’d I tell her about my crush on Draco?
“Alcohol.”
Harry blinked at Draco, who was facing him. “What?”
Draco smiled. “Everything in this case contains alcohol.” He leaned closer. “But honestly, if it’s a buzz you need you’re better off going for a pint and sticking with the traditional Honeydukes chocolates.”
“Oh.” Harry smiled back. “Shall we?”
Draco blinked. “What?”
“Go for a pint.”
“I’m working.”
Harry shrugged. “I’ll wait.”
Draco stared at him for a long moment. “My shift ends in an hour.”
Harry nodded. “Brilliant.”
