Pulling back, Remus awaited Severus’ reaction.
Severus licked his lips. “You kissed me. Why?”
“I wanted to.” Remus exhaled. “And you kissed back, don’t deny it.”
“I wasn’t planning to.”
“So you do fancy me.” Remus smiled. “Was that so difficult to admit?”
Severus huffed. “That was never a question.”
“It was to me.” Remus’ eyes narrowed. “This needn’t be awkward. We can date, like normal people.”
“Normal?” Severus snorted. “Neither one of us is normal.”
“Perhaps not,” Remus conceded. “Still, it’s preferable to sneaking about in the dead of night pretending.”
“Dating, hm?” Severus hummed. “When?”
“Tonight?”
“Very well.”

“Is everything...all right?” Remus asked once seated at the restaurant.
Severus scanned the menu. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You know.” Remus lowered his voice. “We kissed.”
“Indeed.” Severus smirked. “I was there.”
“And?” Remus asked.
Severus hummed. “It was...acceptable.”
Remus rolled his eyes. “Would it kill you to admit you enjoyed yourself?”
“Perhaps not.” Leaning forward, Severus purred, “You may console yourself in the dead of night knowing that your kiss made my blood sing and my body tingle.”
Remus’ mouth dropped open. “I thought you weren’t good at flirtation.”
Severus smirked. “I’m a quick study.”
“Apparently so.”

Remus drank more wine over dinner than usual. Fortunately, Severus didn’t seem to notice. “Thanks for dinner,” he said as they left.
Remus smiled. “So you enjoyed yourself tonight? Careful, or I’ll get the impression you actually like me.”
“Let’s not be hasty,” murmured Severus, although he, too, smiled.
Far too soon, they arrived at Severus’ flat, located above his clinic. Severus coughed. “Care to come in?”
“I’d love to.” Remus smiled. “But what’ll your neighbours think if you’ve strange men over in the dead of night?”
Severus hummed, dragging him close. “Sod them,” he said, sealing their lips together.
