Warming Things Up
~
The day had certainly taken a bit of a surreal turn for Harry. First, Snape had shown up out of the blue carrying visual proof of one of the more embarrassing episodes in Harry’s recent life, and then he’d asked him out. On what felt like a date. Not that I’m objecting to that last bit, Harry thought as he sat across from Snape in a small bistro.
“...narrowed the list of likely candidates to Ms Granger because, as you say, she had access to the photographs, and to Ms Lovegood just on general principle.”
As Snape talked, Harry watched his lips move. Funny how they could convey so much emotion. He’d seen Snape’s mouth curled in derision, thinned with irritation and, of course, curved into cruel smirks. But tonight Harry thought he seemed more...open. And his mouth was somehow a lot more mesmerising than usual--
“...perhaps I’m boring you?”
Harry blinked, dragging his eyes from Snape’s mouth to look up into his eyes. “What? No! Sorry, I’m just a bit distracted.” By your mouth. Harry blushed.
Snape’s mouth curved into a small smile. “Indeed. Then perhaps we should postpone these discussions until you sort through your distractions.”
“No, that’s fine,” Harry said. He frowned. “Wait, did you just say you thought Luna could have sent you that card? Why?”
Snape coughed. “Years of dealing with her have taught me to never discount her involvement in odd events.”
Harry laughed. “Well, yeah, I can’t dispute that,” he said.
The waiter arrived just then to clear away the dishes. It had been an excellent meal, despite the fact that Harry had spent more time focussed on Snape’s mouth than anything else.
“Pudding?” Snape asked.
Harry shook his head. “That was delicious but I’m full.”
Snape nodded and rose, extending his hand to Harry.
Harry frowned. “But what about--?”
“The bill? Already taken care of.” Snape helped Harry up. “Shall we?”
Yes, everything about the evening felt like a real date, although, as they walked outside, Harry wasn’t sure what to expect next. The bistro they’d gone to was on a lovely, tree-lined street. The lanterns were lit and, as it had recently snowed, the walk back to the Apparation point, which took them past several stately homes, was quite romantic. He was aching to touch Snape, but couldn’t think of a way. He shivered. I’d like to do more than just touch him.
“Are you cold?” Snape asked, sliding an arm over Harry’s shoulders.
Harry inhaled Snape’s scent. “It is a bit chilly,” he whispered, subtly snuggling closer. “Although, it’s such a nice evening, maybe we could slow down.”
Snape responded by drawing to a halt and pulling Harry around to face him. “If you’re very cold I’ve a way of warming you up.”
Harry stared into Snape’s eyes. “Oh?”
“Mmhm.” And, lowering his mouth to Harry’s, he kissed him.
