In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. What are your hopes and dreams for fandom? Do you have any predictions about what the next five years holds for fandom?
Wow, so this is a tough one.
I'm not much for meta (I don't think I'm that good at it, tbh), but I'll give this a shot.
The future of fandom, hm?
Well, my hope is that people continue to not only discover fandom but continue to jump in and play and add their own creativity to the collective mix. The trend towards tumblr worries me, since that platform isn't as conducive to conversation, which I think is one of the strengths of journal based fandom. I suspect there will always be a small number of us holdouts on journals and at archives, communicating, feeding off each other, and generally rolling around in our chosen fandoms, however. At least I hope so. *crosses fingers*
There will of course be new fandoms, and although many have stood the test of time (Star Trek, LoTR) and only time will tell if my primary fandom, Harry Potter, stays vibrant. I'm hoping that when they reboot the movies (I predict in 10 years) that will bring more people, but again, only time will tell. And I am not-so-secretly hoping some enterprising animator makes HP the anime. *g* THAT would be awesome. :)
Predictions? Well, I'd never have predicted I'd still be as obsessed with fictional characters 7 years later, but they really are important to me, so I dunno how accurate any predictions I make will be. ;) I've made many wonderful friends here, though, so I will go out on a limb and predict that that they will always be special to me! ♥
