New Beginnings

~

“You’re sure about this?” asked Hermione.

Harry smiled. “You’re the one who said we needed a new beginning after the war.”

“I know, but--” She sighed. “This seems a bit sudden. Maybe you should wait--”

“No.” Harry rose. “We’ve been together for months. And we’ve known each other years. Why should we wait?”

“You shouldn’t,” said Ron.

Hermione glared at him. “Ron!”

“What? He’s an adult.”

Hermione huffed. “I suppose.”

Hugging her, Harry said, “It’s not as if I’m going far. I’ll still see you on weekends.”

“I know. Just...don’t be a stranger.”

“I promise. I have to go.”

“I realise this is a new beginning, Draco, but isn’t this taking things a bit too far?”

Draco looked up from his trunk. “Why’s that?”

Narcissa sighed. “You’re moving out.”

Draco smiled. “You knew I’d move out eventually, Mother.”

“I just never thought it would be under these circumstances.”

Sighing, Draco shrunk his trunk and, slipping it into his pocket, walked towards her. “It’s not as though you’ll never see me again. I’ll be back for dinner this weekend.”

Hugging him, Narcissa whispered, “Will you both come?”

Draco blinked. “If you like.”

“Good.” Exhaling, Narcissa smiled. “We’ll see you then.”

~

“You’re late.”

Harry smiled as he approached Draco. “Have you been waiting long?”

“Ages.” Draco smirked. “This is supposed to be our new beginning.”

“It is,” agreed Harry, sliding his arm around Draco’s waist then pulling him close for a kiss. “And I’m not really late, am I?”

Draco hummed. “I suppose technically you’re early.”

“So you were really early,” Harry murmured. “Problems at home?”

Draco sighed. “Mother got a bit maudlin.”

Harry nodded. “Hermione did, too. Ron...not so much.”

“Who knew us moving in together would upset people?”

Harry smiled. “People hate change.” He gestured. “So, shall we?”

~

Draco inclined his head. “Doesn’t it feel like we should do something special?”

“Like what?”

“I dunno. We are starting new lives together.” Draco shrugged.

Harry smirked. “I could carry you over the threshold.”

Draco’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “I’m not a sodding bride.”

Harry grinned. “Fine, no carrying.” He coughed. “You’re probably too heavy anyway.”

“Are you calling me fat?”

“No!” Harry drew Draco close again. “A new beginning means no fighting, remember? Now, the sooner we go in, the sooner we can christen the place.”

Mollified, Draco hummed. “You’ve a one-track mind.”

“And you love it.”

“That I do.”
