It’d been a gift from Regulus, and Severus hadn’t known what to make of it.
“It’s a Foe-Glass.” Reg, sitting cross-legged on Severus’ bed in the Slytherin dorm, smiled. “My parents have several. They won’t miss this one.” His smile faded. “You need it since my brother has it in for you.”
“What does it do?” Severus asked, turning it over in his hands.
“Just what it says. It shows enemies close by.” Reg leaned against him. “So you can take precautions.”
Severus hummed. “Brilliant. What do you want in return?”
Reg’s smirk had been sly. “You’ll think of something.”

Severus smiled at the memories. Foe-Glass had saved him many times -- warning him of Sirius’ attacks, letting him prepare for surprise Death Eater raids, even showing him Nagini before her attack, allowing him time to prepare.
Although those it hadn’t shown him had been even more illuminating. It had never shown Lily, or Albus, Lupin, or Harry. Holding it up, Severus stared into it. It certainly wouldn’t show Harry now.
“Severus?”
Severus jumped as Harry came up behind him and kissed his neck. “I was just thinking about you,” he murmured, putting the glass down.
“Good things I hope.”
“Always.”

Date: 2014-02-06 04:48 pm (UTC)Honestly, it was rather a throw-away item in canon, I'm not surprised we don't see a lot of Foe-Glass fic. Although maybe now there will be a resurgence? ;)
