A Discerning Memory
~
“Where are you going?” asked Severus, looking up from his book.
Harry raised an eyebrow. “We’re going to the Burrow for dinner. It’s the third Sunday.”
Severus groaned. “Already?”
Harry laughed. “You’re very forgetful when it comes to family dinners. Do you need a Remembrall?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Severus snapped. “And they’re not family dinners, they’re opportunities for Molly to harangue us about bonding.”
Harry hummed. Plucking the book from Severus’ hands, he set it aside. “Actually, I’ve a solution for that.”
“Oh?”
Harry slid into Severus’ lap and pulled a velvet box from his pocket. “I think so, yes.”
~
Harry’s serious expression made Severus’ heart speed up. “And what is this solution?” he asked, pleased when the words came out evenly.
“Severus Snape, will you bond with me?”
Harry’s hand had the slightest tremor and Severus, reassured that Harry was as nervous as he, gathered Harry to him. “Yes,” he murmured against his lips. “I will.”
Harry’s whoop almost deafened him. Severus solved that problem by kissing him until they were both breathless and panting. “We can’t,” gasped Harry as Severus reached for Harry’s buttons. “We’re due at dinner!”
“Extenuating circumstances,” murmured Severus, not stopping. “We’ll make it. Eventually.”
~
“You’re late,” greeted Ronald as Severus and Harry entered the Burrow. “Mum held dinner.”
“Sorry,” said Harry, looking anything but. “We were a bit busy.”
Ronald glanced at Severus, who smirked. He blanched. “I didn’t need to know that. Can’t you do that on your own time?”
“It was our own time,” Severus murmured.
“There you are!” Molly waved. “I thought you’d forgotten.”
Harry smiled. “Not even if we have to get a Remembrall to remind us,” he said. “No, we had...an event.” He held up his hand, showing off his ring.
Molly clapped her hands. “It’s a celebration!”
~
They got home late, loaded with food and drink. “We shouldn’t have to cook for ages,” said Harry, surveying their bounty.
Severus snorted. “We’ll consume this in days. Which reminds me, I need to do some shopping.”
Harry smirked. “I knew that business about ‘forgetting dinner’ was a ruse. You’ve an excellent memory.”
Severus hummed. “For things I care about, yes. For example, since we’re newly engaged, we should celebrate. Where’s that Slytherin skirt?”
Harry’s eyes widened. “How did you remember--?” He shook his head. “Never mind. No Remembralls needed here, obviously.”
Severus steered him towards the bedroom. “Indeed not.”

Date: 2014-02-11 10:20 pm (UTC)And I envisioned the old "Potter ancestral bonding rings" trope for this one, so I see them having matching rings. :)

Date: 2014-02-15 02:09 am (UTC)Yes, Severus doesn't do well when pushed, bless him. Happily, Harry knows just what to do. And, as Severus is no fool, he jumped at the opportunity. :)
I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, hon! And, as always, your comment gave me a huge smile!
