Not Celebrating Valentine’s Day
~
“No,” said Severus the moment Harry entered the kitchen.
Harry raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t say anything.”
“You were going to suggest we celebrate Valentine’s Day. The answer is no.”
Harry smiled. “I wasn’t going to suggest any such thing.” Pouring himself a cup of tea, he sat at the table and picked up the paper.
Severus’ eyes narrowed. “It’s not going to work.”
“What isn’t?” Harry didn’t look up.
“You’re pretending not to care so that I feel guilty and relent. Well it’s not going to happen.”
Harry chuckled. “Severus, honestly, I don’t care either. Valentine’s Day isn’t my thing.” Standing, he kissed Severus’ cheek in passing. “I have to go to work. See you later.”
“Indeed,” Severus muttered, scowling after him. “That you shall.”
~
“Doing anything special for Valentine’s Day?” asked Hermione at work.
Looking up from his desk, Harry laughed. “You’ve met Severus. What do you think?”
Hermione sighed. “I thought--Oh well, it’s an overrated day anyway.”
“Now you sound like him.” Having completed his last report, Harry tapped it with his wand. After watching it roll up and disappear, he rose. “Honestly, we know how we feel about each other. We don’t need the trappings of a created holiday.”
“Well that’s a very healthy attitude.” Hermione patted his arm. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodnight,” said Harry, moving towards the Floos. “Are we still on for dinner this weekend?”
“Absolutely,” said Hermione.
~
When Harry got home, the house was silent. Shrugging, he slipped off his cloak and hung it by the door. “Severus?” he called.
“In here.”
Entering the bedroom, Harry froze. Severus, lying on red sheets, was fondling himself. On the bed beside him sat a box of chocolates and a tray with a bottle of wine and two glasses. “What are you doing?”
Severus raised an eyebrow. “If you have to ask, perhaps we need to work on our relationship.”
Harry laughed, starting to strip. “You know what I mean.” He tilted his head towards the chocolate and wine. “This looks a lot like a Valentine’s Day celebration.”
Severus snorted. “Chocolates, wine, and sex are not exclusive to Valentine’s Day.”
Crawling up onto the bed, Harry hummed as he straddled Severus. “No, I suppose not.” Leaning down, he whispered, “So, did you say something about sex?”
“Indeed.” Severus shifted, his hands settling on Harry’s hips. “And just so we’re clear, this really has absolutely nothing to do with Valentine’s Day.”
“Oh, I’m clear,” said Harry, smiling as he pressed close. “Very clear.”
Severus smirked. “Excellent.”

Date: 2014-02-15 07:35 pm (UTC)And to think that there really would be no need to celebrate, because Harry knows him and loves him just the way he is - whether without a romantic bone inside his body or not. (Was that sentence correct? *shrugs* Ah, I hope you understand)

Date: 2014-02-20 02:25 am (UTC)And I totally understand and you're right. There's no real need to celebrate when you have exactly what you want every night. *nods*
Thanks, hon!

Date: 2014-02-21 11:35 pm (UTC)I enjoyed how determinedly Severus refused to celebrate Valentine's day and I must confess that I was a bit shocked when he was the one who caved in first, so to speak. I LOL-ed when he pointed out that his plans for the evening could have taken place any day of the year and I sincerely hope that Harry will use that handy excuse to demand the same sort of treatment once a week or so from now on...
Gorgeous, gorgeous piece, ali. Funny and romantic to boot. :)

Date: 2014-02-22 03:08 am (UTC)I don't think either of them consider it caving (well Harry may, but I doubt he'd ever say it! out loud) since, really, Severus is right.
And I like to think that Harry would be more than prepared to celebrate the average Tuesday night like this, yes. *g*
Glad you enjoyed it!
