“But why Snape?” Hermione shook her head. “I don’t understand. Especially after the way he acted in school. This all seems very sudden.”
Harry sighed. “It’s not sudden at all, Hermione. All the time we spent together on his Wizengamot defence meant I got to know him, really know him.”
“Right, but--”
“He did what he had to do during the war.” Harry raised as eyebrow. “As we all did.”
“Sure, but--” Leaning forward, she clasped his hand. “He’s no prize, Harry. What if he hurts you?”
Harry smiled. “That’s my chance to take.”
She sighed. “It’s your decision.”
“Exactly.”

“She’s right. I’m no prize.”
Harry gaped at Severus. “How--?” He frowned. “You were across the room. And Hermione’s back was to you! How could you possibly--?”
Severus nodded at the wall mirror. “I’m an excellent lip reader.”
Harry sighed, linking their arms. “It’s clearly time to suggest Molly take down all the reflective surfaces here at the Burrow,” he muttered.
Severus hummed. “She won’t. How do you think she always knows what’s going on?”
Harry rolled his eyes. “And you’re wrong.”
“About?”
“You are a prize. My prize.” Leaning in, Harry kissed him.
Severus snorted. “Stubborn.”
Harry grinned. “Always.”

Date: 2014-03-04 10:42 pm (UTC)I'm surprised by Hermione's lack of understanding here, since I always imagined she'd be the most supportive side of the trio when it comes to the possibility of a snarry relationship, but her attitude allowed Harry to defend his decision and he did it brilliantly indeed. :)
Severus comment about the cunning tactic that Molly uses to keep herself in the know when it comes to her family's going ons was absolutely precious. This was both funny and romantic. A truly enjoyable read, ali. :)

Date: 2014-03-05 01:23 am (UTC)Yes, I usually make Hermione the supportive one, but I thought a bit of a turn about was fair here, and, really, it allowed Harry to state his case, which may have been her plan all along, you never know with her. ;)
I'm so pleased you enjoyed this one, hon!
