Mutual Luck

Harry and Severus had just settled down with books when there was a deep reverberation throughout the house. Jumping up, they raced towards the potion lab to find Teddy, looking frightened but otherwise unhurt, staring into a scorched cauldron.
“Are you all right?” asked Harry, while Severus inspected the cauldron. “What happened?”
“My liquid luck exploded!” Teddy groaned. “I’ll need a new batch.”
“It’s Felix Felicis,” corrected Severus absently.
Harry shot Severus a look. “Why were you brewing it in the first place?” he asked Teddy.
Teddy blushed.
Harry sighed. “Right. Clean up this mess and we’ll discuss it upstairs.”
~
Teddy remained silent once upstairs. “Explain what’s going on,” Harry said gently.
“I just...needed some good luck, all right?” said Teddy after a moment, looking away. “Liquid luck seemed the best way.”
“Felix Felicis,” murmured Severus.
Harry coughed. “Not the point, though,” he said, eyeing Severus pointedly. “The point is...why do you think you need it, Teddy?” He hesitated. “It’s not for anything...clandestine, is it?”
Teddy’s eyes widened, his hair cycling rapidly between purple and green. “God, no! I just--” He took a deep inhalation, then blurted, “I just want what you and Severus have, all right?”
~
“What we have?” Severus frowned. “Explain.”
Teddy waved his hand. “You know, the perfect relationship. Everyone thinks you two are made for each other, and you are, it’s obvious in the way you look at each other, the way you kiss when you think no one’s looking--”
Severus cleared his throat. “And you believe a potion will give you that?”
“No, but some liquid luck can’t hurt when I finally get up the courage to ask Victoire out.”
“Felix--”
“Yes, we know, Severus,” interrupted Harry, patting his arm. Turning to Teddy, Harry sighed. “A potion won’t give you that, Teddy.”
~
“But it’ll give me a shot.” Teddy’s mouth was set.
Harry smiled. “What Severus and I have took work. Yes, there was some luck involved, but it took mainly determination--” Severus snorted. Harry paused, grinning. “Fine. It took stubbornness and patience. And no one thought we were perfect for each other back then, trust me.”
Teddy blinked. “Really? But you two are just--”
“Perfect?” murmured Severus dryly.
“Yeah.” Teddy’s shoulders sagged. “So you won’t let me brew liquid luck?”
Severus opened his mouth and Harry stepped on his foot. “We’re saying you don’t need it. I think Victoire likes you very well without a potion.”
“Indeed.”
~
“What do you think he’ll do?” asked Harry as they prepared for bed.
Severus hummed. “You gave him much to consider, so hopefully he’ll consider it, although if he’s determined, he’ll do it nevertheless.”
“True.” Harry smiled. “And we gave him a lot to consider.”
“You did most of the counselling, I simply tried to correct his repeated and incorrect use of the words ‘liquid luck’.” Severus slipped into bed.
Harry laughed. “You helped,” he said, climbing in after. He shook his head. “I can’t believe he thinks our relationship is perfect.”
“Why not?” Severus asked. “I’m pleased with it.”
~
Harry smiled. “Well yes, so am I, I just--” His smiled deepened. “Never mind. So...” he asked, tone playful, “am I going to need some liquid luck to get into your pants?”
“Some Felix Felicis you mean?” Severus settled back against the pillows, arms crossed, eyebrow raised. “Highly unlikely as you have an open invitation to my pants.” He smirked. “And to the rest of me as well.”
“Oh yeah,” whispered Harry as he turned out the light. “Aren’t I lucky?” he murmured, reaching for him.
“Indeed.” Severus hummed as Harry’s hands slid over his body. “The feeling’s quite mutual.”

Date: 2014-03-29 01:21 am (UTC)I laughed at Severus' insistence in correcting the name of the potion and at how Harry kept so pointedly interrupting him, as if he just 'knew' that Severus was going to end up putting his foot in it and making everything worse. That perfectly timed stepping on Sev's foot made me grin like mad.
I loved the lesson Harry was trying to teach Teddy here, how he didn't simply tell him that his love interest would probably like him without the potion, but also went out of his way to point out that relationships don't become 'ideal' without hard work...
All in all this piece was both thought-provoking and hilarious in a wonderfully quirky mixture that made it seem both truly original and plain and simply fun. :)

Date: 2014-04-04 01:29 am (UTC)Severus adores Teddy, but of course he's just so...correct all the time, especially when it comes to potions, that it would grate to have someone constantly referring to a potion by its incorrect name. :)
Harry's reaction made sense to me as well given how well he knows his husband. *g*
And Teddy will get there eventually. He has a great example to follow, after all.
Thank you so much!
