More Beholder Recs!
May. 12th, 2014 02:14 pmI've been meaning to post these for a while (well, not today's fic, that was just lovely and needed to be recced immediately, but the others? Yeah.)
Anyway, do remember the usual disclaimers (YMMV etc). And, of course, if you see something you enjoy, go leave some love! :)
Fools in Love (4445 words, NC-17) Williamson/Tonks, Moody/Tonks.
This Alastor! OMG, gruff and sexy and perfect. And the way Tonks sees him really made me take a second look at him. :) Also I loved the way the author cleverly had him focus on security in his everyday life, even down to what he does in his more intimate moments. *g* That is so totally him.
This Tonks was brilliant as well, with just the right amount of bravado and insecurity to make her seem genuine and sweet. A really enjoyable read.
we lay together on a cold hard floor (9000 words, R) Snape/Pettigrew.
First, why do more people not write this pairing? It makes so much sense. *shakes head*
This author is masterful in their characterizations. They captured Severus really well but, more importantly this Peter is perfect. Instead of the normal tendency to make him stupid, the author shows how clever he really is, and it made a lot more sense. Of COURSE he's not stupid, or inept. He'd have to be skilled. And I love that he has no problem not letting people know all he can do. Really brilliant writing, this. Check it out.
Cat Ladies (2300 words, PG) Figg/Umbridge.
No, no, don't run away. This story will make you toss all your preconceptions about these characters out the window. The story structure was really inventive and engaging, and the use of second person POV brilliant. This turns everything we think we know about these two on its head and it's fabulous.
Working Things Out (7790 words, R) mystery pairing but includes Arthur Weasley, Minerva McGonagall, Poppy Pomfrey, Garrick Ollivander, and others.
Really delightful story. The romance in it is charmingly old fashioned yet sexy and sweet. Without giving the pairing away I'll say the author made them very well suited for each other. :)
And Garrick Ollivander's characterization was superb. Even down to his admiration of all power, even if it's a bit Dark. Really fun romp with some well done characterizations throughout.
Go! Read! Enjoy!
