Day 5
In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I've told this story before, but here it is again. :)
I started out in the Anita Blake fandom. I'd read the first 5 or 6 books (I forget how many it was now) and then I was walking through an airport, spotted another book further on in the series and picked it up on a whim. It was as if a different person had written it, so I went searching online to find out if anyone had theories on what happened.
That was when I discovered that people actually wrote fanfic, and I quickly gravitated to slash (mmmm, vampire slash).
Anita Black lost its luster (mainly because the author went nuts) and so I gravitated to Smallville, where I wrote Clex (Clark Kent/Lex Luthor) fanfic. While that show went insane, I was reading the Harry Potter books and found out there was fanfic for that, too.
I started out thinking I'd ship Harry/Draco, and I did for a while. Someone mentioned (very derogatorily) that there were actually people who shipped Severus Snape/Harry Potter (the horror!) and I thought, "Hm, that's odd. I don't see it, but maybe I'll check it out." I stumbled across the Tea Series and thought I'd try it. (I later discovered that the Tea Series was the gateway drug for many Snarry shippers. LOL.)
And that was it. I was sucked into the world of Snarry (although I do love me some Harry/Draco, too, and, honestly, I'll ship just about anyone once) and now I can't imagine my life without my OTP. Because of HP fanfic I have made many dear friends (*glomps
lilyseyes,
torino10154,
dementordelta,
emynn,
sassy_cissa,
cruisedirector and about a zillion others*).
Thank you, Harry Potter!
As for my name, it's just the name given to me by a dear friend's' husband (who has since passed away). Sadly, I'm not exciting enough to have any other secret identities. :P
