Despite his misgivings, Severus was calm as they entered Grimmauld Place. The upcoming confrontation would be acrimonious, but Severus knew Harry would be going home with him.
The house was musty, redolent with the mouldy scent of disuse. “I should do something with this place,” Harry murmured.
“Like what?” Severus asked, curious.
“Maybe give it to Teddy? He’s a Black.” Harry clasped Severus’ hand. “And I doubt we’ll ever live here.”
Severus smiled. “Agreed. Although it’s probably valuable. You could sell it.”
“I suppose.” Harry sighed. “That’d feel weird, though, since Sirius left it to me.”
“Speaking of, where’s his portrait?”
“Here.” Harry pulled Severus towards an empty picture in the living room. “Not sure where he is at the moment, though.”
“Probably surreptitiously watching us,” Severus muttered.
“Or pouting.”
Startled, Severus eyed him. Harry winked back.
Within moments, a figure entered the empty portrait. “I don’t pout,” Black sniffed.
Harry grinned. “You could’ve fooled me.”
Black harrumphed, but he was smiling. His smile faded as he looked towards Severus. “Sniv—”
Harry cleared his throat.
Black sighed. “Snape.”
Severus inclined his head. “Black.”
They glared at each other, a battle of wills.
Harry sighed. “Right. What must I do to have the two of you get along?”
Black looked away from Severus, blinking at Harry in clear astonishment. “You want us to get along? Why?”
For once, Severus agreed with him.
“Because, other than a few pieces, like my dad’s Cloak and the Marauder’s Map, you’re all I have left of my parents,” said Harry.
“Do you think they’d approve of you and him?” Black nodded towards Severus.
“Maybe not Dad,” Harry admitted. “But I bet Mum would be fine.”
Suddenly, Severus remembered the odd dream he’d had months back. He coughed.
“Well, I think it’s madness,” Black said.
“Okay,” Harry said. “But he’s still my choice.”
“It’s your funeral.” Black turned back towards Severus. “But I’m warning you, Snape. Portrait or not, you hurt him, and I’ll find a way to destroy you.”
Severus raised his chin. “Do your worst, Black. But if I ever end up hurting Harry, I’ll destroy myself.”
Black nodded. “As long as we understand each other.”
Harry exhaled. “Brilliant.”

Date: 2016-07-10 02:29 pm (UTC)almostanticlimatic. Not that I'm complaining, but... um - shouldn't they have been yelling and cursing (verbally, since Sirius can't do magic as a painting) each other? Some insults, some bringing up past hurts, some snarling and a bit of tearing their hair out. Something like that?Because seeing them like this, one might think that they have actually grown up and become mature enough to leave their grudges behind for the sake of someone they both love - Harry.
But that couldn't be, could it? That's like believing in fairies, unicorns and magic. Err... yeah, well. :P
Thank you for this suprising chapter, dear alisanne! ^^
