Festy Thoughs

Holiday fest season is coming and I need to organize my thoughts, plan out what I'm doing, etc.
Here's what I'm thinking:


So, as you all know, since I whined about it a while back, I didn't get into Erised this year, which allows me to plan my time a bit differently than I originally anticipated.
BTW, I did contemplate signing up as a pinch-hitter, but in the end I decided not to, basically because I don't feel like that's fair to me or to the person who could be my recipient. After all, people spend months crafting their gift, and it shows. It's not that unusual to see fics over 100K in Erised.
Therefore, even if I could slap something together in a few weeks (which is not guaranteed), I'd feel like my recipient would getting cheated out of a 'proper' fic. Honestly, I'd feel bad gifting anything less than 20K, and that usually takes me a while.
And that's even if I got picked to write a pinch in the first place, which is also not guaranteed. And with the mood I'm in right now, I'd prolly see not getting picked as another rejection...*
Anyway, the bottom line is, after a lot of soul searching, vacillating, and driving the people in Slash Chat™ crazy, I've decided not to do it. *sigh*

*Yes, I'm aware the Erised signups are strictly first-come/first-served, and it was my fault I was too late to get in, but it still feels like a rejection, K? I didn't say I was always logical. :P)

That still leaves me a bunch of fests in which I can play, though. :)

Therefore, here's my list of fall and holiday fests in which I will likely will participate (assuming they are running this year).

In addition, I'm considering:

smutty_claus (although my luck participating in het only fests during the holidays is not the best).
Also, lupin_snape is taking a poll about maybe having a fest, so maybe they'll make it a holiday one? That could be cool. :)

Have I missed any you think I'd enjoy? If so, poke me. :)

So really, December will still be crazy. Maybe everything worked out for the best in the end?
Yeah, I'm going with that. :P

Oh, man, it would be awesome if mini_fest opened on DW!

I'm so sorry about Erised. That so sucks. I hear you on the pinch hitting. It comes with a whole different kind of pressure and is unpredictable at that. But it looks like you've got a full plate of other fests now!

Thanks, hon. Yeah, I'm finally starting to get over it, but NGL, I was mopey for a while. :(
I really did some soul searching about pinch-hitting, but I think it's best if I channel my holiday fest energy elsewhere.
And yeah, I never end up saying 'boy, I wish I had another project or two to do' during December. :P

I'm sorry that you've missed out on Erised but it certainly looks as though you'll be busy this festive season! I'll definitely be considering participating in the Secret Snarry Swap if it runs...

I think December/the holidays will be plenty busy. Besides Owlpost, you could also do a holiday H/D series for Adventdrabbles. I bet that would be quite popular.

And I will already be doing H/D series' for Slythindor100 and DracoHarry100.
I should think of a fun rarepair series to write for adventdrabbles. ;)

Way too late but I always like to encourage participation in Smutty Claus where I can. It was my first fest and I'm fond of it but participation is going down each year. :(

Oh, never too late!
My only issue with it would be the lack of support? I know it sounds terrible, but the only fests I've ever participated in where my recipient never responded to my gift have been het only fests. *shrugs*
Anyway, we'll see.

I'm sorry that happened. That did happen my second year at SC and it's not fun. :(

Another time I got a short comment promising a larger one later. 'later' turned out to be nearly a year later when the recipient was writing their next year's entry! lol.

Yeah, that really sucks. Especially when you work hard on a gift for someone. :(

I may give it a go, depending on how the next few months shape up. :)
