Can someone fucking explain to me how the losing side in a conflict that happened hundreds of years ago gets to have statues up to 'celebrate' its 'culture', while the people who 'won' don't have memorials celebrating that so called win?
AND then, when the losing side is reminded that 1) they lost, and 2) they were on the wrong fucking side of history anyway because, hello! Slavery!, how is it they can take to the streets to march, without hoods (because who needs hoods when you have friends in high places?) and then mow down counter-protesters with a car?

And then the not my president says this was wrong 'on many sides'? NO, asshole, your NAZI supporters are the ones at fault. They are feeling bold because you have made it permissible and acceptable for them to show their faces in daylight again.
Last I checked, we fought a war about this and the question is settled. At least it is in Germany! So why are we still arguing the point here? NAZIS are bad. Why won't he SAY IT? You don't have to answer that, I know why he won't. Fucking super callous fragile egoistic racist POTUS.

My great-grandparents escaped tbe Nazis (who didn't like Catholics, gays, or any race not their own)!! Being a Nazi should be illegal in the Unoited States. And, like with the Holocaust, move all those mementos of an oppressive culture to a museum so no one ever forgets the horrors they inflicted!

Yeah, people are entitled to free speech, but free speech doesn't mean you don't have to pay the consequences for that speech. And as far as I'm concerned, Nazis should get punched in the face.

The president is only interested in whatever will make him and his family richer. if it doesn't benefit him, he doesn't give a crap.

This is still our country, and we're not going to let the people who fear difference, fear change, and fear fairness stay in power. It's our country more than it is theirs, because even if they have more of the money and more of the power, they don't understand any of the principles the country is about.

Tired for sure. I guess I knew that we hadn't completely won things over, but I never thought that the backlash against social justice progress was going to be so big. I got lulled into thinking that progress was going to be continuing and maybe even getting faster :(

The thing that makes me saddest is seeing all the young people on the Nazi side. I had thought maybe that growing up in a more enlightened age would make that kind of thing just unthinkable.

I actually want them to come without hoods. This way, the internet remembers them, and the internet never forgets. It also serves as a reminder, for those who are still watching on the sidelines, who still think this is irrelevant to them, that these are real people among us, with real hate etched behind the real eyes and nose and mouth.

And if these people who're so confident to come without mask truly believe that those in higher places are their friends, then... I shall sit in my comfy chair with a glass of wine and watch the unpleasant surprise that will soon befall them. Those higher ups know only pawns, not friends.

I was having a comment fest with a man on facebook about this subject when he accused me of being overly politically correct when I told him that despite his own views on race, immigration, sexual orientation and gender that as long as he supported politicians who were racist, homophobic, misogynist, xenophobic arshlochs he would be viewed as they are...I also told him to travel to Germany and look for Nazi monuments, sure there are SOME but you won't find ANY that celebrate Hitler or the Nazi regime, hell even waving the Nazi flag is a jailable offence.

I am so sickened, exhausted, outraged, and furious that I truly don't know where to turn. There are literal torch-wielding, racist white terrorist mobs taking to our streets to preach bigotry and promote violence -- and instead of universal condemnation, they receive support and encouragement from too many of our religious and political so-called "leaders." And not only that, but the very existence of the mob is down to the encouragement they have received from Trump for months now. WTF indeed.

When I was a kid, I saw this movie about a prairie family facing a fire. I don't remember what it was called or who was in it, but scenes from it are burned into my memory. The problem starts small, just little patches of fire on dry grasses. At first the parents are able to stamp out the flames or beat them out with burlap sacks, but every time they put out one patch, another starts up and then another and another. Soon the entire family, even the little kids, are out there whacking burlap around, but it does no good. For every smothered flame, another five take its place. Pretty soon the entire prairie and homestead are nothing but an unbroken sheet of towering, unquenchable fire.

That's how I feel about what's happening in the US now. For every little flame of right-wing extremism we manage to smother, another fifty dangerous fires spring up. Will our burlap resistance be able to make a difference to the conflagration? I have to hope it will. In any event, I'll keep fighting. But damn, it's exhausting and discouraging.

That is an apt analogy. All these people who are saying racism has been 'solved' are, well, naive at best or, more likely, lying in order to try to get things reversed.
I fear the whole country soon will be on fire.

I want to keep the old values (this is the land of opportunity where you are what you make yourself, not what you are born) and blend it with the modern notion of citizen meaning all human beings, not just the white males that conformed to a strict social conduct (that included marrying a white woman and going to church).
