Going Home: Part Five

~

Draco took his time getting ready, so much so that Harry had to check on him a couple of times. “Are you ready yet?” he asked after about forty-five minutes.

When the door opened and Draco emerged looking every inch the inscrutable Unspeakable, however, Harry smiled. “I see you decided to go for intimidation after all. Should I put on my Auror robes?”

Draco raised an eyebrow. “It couldn’t hurt.”

Shaking his head, Harry slipped into the bedroom and emerged two minutes later in his Auror dress robes.

“You brought your dress uniform with us on holiday?” Draco asked when he saw him. “That’s an odd choice.”

Harry smirked. “You like it when we play Auror and criminal, so I thought I might have a reason to bring them.”

“Oh.” Draco’s cheeks went pink. “Yes, that does make sense.” He turned away, warming his hands by the fire. “Is it bad I don’t want to go? Does it make me a horrible son?”

“Not at all,” said Harry, walking up behind Draco to embrace him.

Draco huffed, although he did lean back into Harry’s arms. “Some might not agree. In fact, some would say I don’t deserve anything good because I’m being naughty and not at all nice.” He’s snorted softly. “By rights, Santa should skip me this year.”

Harry sighed. “Too late. I have it on good authority Santa plans to get you some spectacular presents this year.”

“Does he?” Draco spun around in Harry’s arms. “Like what?”

“Nope, not before Christmas.” Harry laughed. “You are such a kid when it comes to presents.”

“Why won’t you just tell me?” Draco whinged, a pleading look on his face.

“Because you’re always so motivated when you’re trying to get information out of me,” Harry said, grinning as Draco pouted. “And that’s not going to work, either!”

“Are you sure?” Draco murmured, a devilish light entering his eyes. Sliding his thigh between Harry’s legs, he whispered, “What if I offer sexual favours?”

“I was sort of counting on that, actually,” said Harry, kissing him. The kiss went deep and slow, and Draco’s fingers actually began fiddling with Harry’s buttons before Harry pulled back. “We have to go,” he reminded Draco regretfully.

“Fuck,” Draco whispered. “You’re right, we do.”

“Don’t forget, I’ll be there with you the entire time.”

“I know, why do you think I’m even bothering to go?” Draco exhaled. “Right, let’s do this before I change my mind.”

They walked out the door, Draco pausing to draw his wand and put up the wards.

As he did that, Harry looked around the clearing, inhaling the cold crisp air. “It’s a winter wonderland out here,” he said. “We should go flying later.”

“It’s a gorgeous day for it,” Draco agreed. He hummed. “Maybe later when we get back, we can even have a snowball fight. I’ll probably have some aggression to release.”

“And here I was counting on fucking that out of you,” Harry said, chuckling.

Draco laughed. “Never mind the snow, then. Although maybe we could fuck and spend some time in the outdoors? Andromeda’s going to ask us if we did any outdoor activities, and I hate lying to her.”

“Fair point,” said Harry as his eyes scanned the area. Taking in the pristine snow and picturesque snow-covered trees, his eyes slid over an owl perched in a tree. He’d already moved on before it registered, and moved his eyes back to it. Squinting, he muttered, “Not you again. What in Merlin’s name do you want?”

“What is it?” asked Draco, his back still turned.

Harry shook his head. “The owl that brought your—Narcissa’s letter.”

“What about it?” Draco said, turning to look at him, wand in mid air.

“I keep seeing the same owl. It’s getting weird.”

Draco finished the warding with a flourish, then looked up at the sky. “Right, where’s this mysterious owl?”

Harry pointed. “Over there— Shit, it’s gone.”

Draco smiled. “Lots of owls look the same, Harry. I bet it’s just a coincidence.”

“My instincts tell me it’s no coincidence,” said Harry, frowning. “And I’ve learned to trust those. It’s the same owl, I swear.”

“Okay,” said Draco. He pursed his lips. “I trust your instincts, too, so do you want to track it now and deal with my parents tomorrow, or—?”

“No,” said Harry. “You’ve put up wards, nothing can get into the cottage. Let’s go to Wiltshire first and when we get back handle the owl.”

“All right.” Clasping Harry’s hand, Draco said, “You know, I’m not even sure if the Manor’s wards will let me in.”

“Only one way to find out.”

“I suppose.” Closing his eyes, Draco embraced Harry. “Hang on, this could be a bumpy ride.”

Bracing himself, Harry pressed his face into Draco’s neck. “I’m ready.”
