When he sat down, Harry realised he actually was hungry, so he helped himself to sandwiches, a couple of fairy cakes, fruit, and a cup of tea. Draco loaded up his plate as well, and without discussing it, he ate Harry’s strawberries, while Harry ate his apples.
Narcissa watched them, smiling faintly as she sipped tea.
Hermione, however, just picked at her meal, finally setting her virtually untouched plate aside and staring out the window at the winter flower garden, her face blank as the others chatted quietly.
Draco’s and Narcissa’s demeanour seemed a bit more relaxed towards each other, so Harry surmised their ‘clear the air’ conversation had gone well. He was sure Draco would tell him all about it later.
One he’d finished eating, Draco started flipping through a few of Hermione’s books, making humming noises. After several minutes, he absently Summoned a quill and some parchment and began jotting notes. Narcissa just watched him, a fond smile on her face.
“Did Kreacher deliver your Unspeakable notes?” Harry asked him once he’d finished eating.
Draco nodded. “He did,” he said, not looking up. “I haven’t had a chance to look through them yet, though.”
Harry smiled, recognizing the look of concentration on his face. He was in full research mode, and it would be for the best if they all left him alone. So he turned towards Hermione, frowning when he saw she was still staring off into the distance. “Are you all right?” Harry leaned in and asked her softly.
Wincing as if startled, she looked at him.
“You were a million miles away,” said Harry gently.
She nodded. “I was. I’m sorry.” Sighing, she looked down at her lap. “It’s stupid, but— Ron should have received my message by now.”
Harry bit his lip. “Maybe he’s somewhere where he can’t answer.”
Hermione raised her. “And where would that be?” She shook her head. “No. It’s time to face the possibility that he doesn’t want to answer.”
Clasping her hand, Harry stared into her eyes. “I swear, Hermione, he will answer to one of us.”
Hermione’s eyes went wide. “Harry, this isn’t your problem—”
“Actually,” said Harry, his voice hard, “it is. I’m quite curious about why Ron thought he could drug you and get away with it.”
“Wait, what?” Draco’s head popped up from the book he was perusing. “Weasley did what?”
Hermione cleared her throat. “This isn’t really the time to discuss it,” she said, pointedly darting her eyes towards Narcissa.
Narcissa sighed. “I can leave if you’d prefer, Mrs—Healer Granger-Weasley, but I do have many years of being married to a man who often made decisions with which I did not agree. I could provide some perspective.”
Hermione swallowed hard. “I don’t know if I can talk about it again without something a bit stronger than tea.”
Narcissa hummed. “That I can definitely provide, Healer Granger-Weasley.”
At the name ‘Weasley’, Hermione shuddered. “Please call me—” She hesitated.
Narcissa smiled. “Perhaps your maiden name can suffice? Are you known simply as Healer Granger at St Mungo’s?”
Hermione exhaled. “Yes. And that will be fine.”
“Excellent.” Narcissa clapped, and a moment later, Bippy appeared. “Bring us brandy,” she said. And after a moment, added, “And some Christmas plum pudding.” She inclined her head. “We may as well make it festive.”

Date: 2017-12-17 04:05 am (UTC)I did not know that about breakups in Advent. I wonder why? :/
It's interesting, this whole subplot came out of nowhere, and now it's taking on a life of its own. LOL.
I'm not sure what's going to happen with R/H but I have 10 installments to fix it all. :)
And of course Lucius is still sick.
Thanks!
