Day 5

So I've seen a couple of people do this, and since I wholeheartedly agree, I'm doing it, too. :P
CANON!
Whatever fandom universe in which you create, please KNOW YOUR CANON.
Now, I reserve the right to mess with canon as suits my mood, but I know Harry Potter, so I can do that. And you can do it, too, but you gotta know what's real and what's not.
Also, for Harry Potter, as far as I'm concerned, canon is THE BOOKS.
Not Cursed Child, not the movies, not even Pottermore (although I do use things I like from those sources, which I reserve the right to do because, say it with me, I know canon).
I admit, I will sometimes
Also, if it's not in canon, I consult Google. Google knows things. ;)

Date: 2018-01-07 01:26 am (UTC)It's possible I'd feel differently if I liked the story, but I doubt it. After all, I like the movies, but the books always and forever remain canon, IMO.
Since I have seen people write HP fanfic and say in their notes they've never read the books or even seen the movies, and claim their stories are based on other fanfic, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that people at least read the source material before playing in the sandbox.

Date: 2018-01-07 01:08 pm (UTC)I do understand about the need to read the source material - I'm in the ACD (book-verse) Sherlock Holmes fandom and we have similar problems.
I did once write a SGA ficlet, when I've never seen the series. It was the equivalent of a muggle mother writing to their child who's just started at Hogwarts, so knowledge is patchy and dodgy in parts. In my case I also had Brumeier read it through.

I will check out your play review, and I even hope to see it one day, but I still don't consider it canon.
Just the books. :)
Ha! All I know about SGA is from Bru's writing, so yeah, I understand where you're coming from there. And a drabble is understandable. But it wasn't a multi-chaptered fic!
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but when
