Day 11

I bet you think obvious answer is obvious, hm?
Of course Harry Potter changed my life, but instead of going down that road, I'm going to talk about a really terrible series.
Anita Blake, in case you don't know, is a Vampire Hunter/Necromancer who, when I first encountered her, was intriguing.
She's petite, dark-haired, and had a bit of an attitude.
And for a while (the first 5 or 6 books IIRC) she was fun.
She had a chip on her shoulder, but I'm okay with flawed characters.
And then something happened. (I later found out what happened was the author left her husband for the head of her fan club, and her husband was helping write the books). The character went from being a chick with an attitude to this sex-crazed yet uptight person who had no time to hunt monsters because, well, she was fucking them. Also, all the men she screws have long hair (like down to the floor, long), weird colored eyes, (seriously? Violet eyes), and, worst of all, IMO, the books have worse SPaG than you're average HP fanfic.
So, how did this change my life?
Well, up to that point I have been a fairly passive reader. But after that went in search of answers, and discovered people on line talking about the books.
There were even people writing their own stories about the characters in the books.
Yes, I admit it, I've killed Anita Blake a few times in fanfic. ;)
But that, of course, led to slash, and Smallville (in which I wrote mushy Clex), and, finally, my forever fandom, Harry Potter.
All because of that series. In fact, I think she's still writing them. *shudders*
So you see? But for that terrible series, I'd never have found fandom, or you guys. Or the hubs, actually, but that's a different story. *g*
