Anyone know what their convention plans are for 2019?

I know this is early since it's been less than a month since I returned from my last Harry Potter convention, but 2019 is shaping up to be a major convention year.

So far I'm contemplating FOUR conventions. (!!!)

1. Misticon: I'm definitely attending. I already have early-bird con tickets and room reservations. *g*

2. Leakycon - Boston: I'm planning to go. titti will hopefully be successful in her efforts to get tickets since they can go fast. Plus, Boston in October will be perfect weather. :)

3. Potterversecon: I wasn't sure they'd throw this one again since apparently attendance was lower this year than last, but they made it sound like they planned to, so it's on the potential list.

4. LEVIOSA 2019! lilyseyes just sent me a link to their site. The best part of the last Leviosa was that a lot of online fans were there. If it's like that again, I'm totally going since cons for me are all about the people. Although 4 cons in one year is...wow.

And there could be other ones, I have no idea.

Guess I know how I'm spending my vacation days next year. :)

So Misticon and Leaky for sure (we'll get the tickets!). Potterverse all depends on the days. They do seem to pick conflicting dates, don't they? Leviosa will depend on a lot of things, including a) if we go to Potterverse and b) finding a roommate since I don't think Jess would go.

*sigh* Maybe we should email the Potterversoncon organizers the dates of all the cons next year so they know which weekends NOT to pick? *rolls eyes.*

Why wouldn't Jess go? Is it because it's in LA?

I think so and also she can't take as many days, but we'll see. I'll bring it up. Then again, I can stay at a friend in Burbank and just drive back and forth morning/night.

At least that one is on the correct coast. For me, anyway - it would just be a straight shot down. And the airfare is actually not be too horrible, even with exchange. But holy cow, that hotel - chaCHING! Then again, Hollywood, so no big surprise there.

Oh well, one can dream.

Is there a group, or a discord, or somewhere that people discuss upcoming cons and who is going? Or is it just a post on you DW/LJ and see what happens kinda thing?

Next year, I'd really waned to try and make it out to Squee!10. Squee is this little not-a-con that a couple of gals in SGA fandom started 10 years ago. Every fall, a bunch of folks get together at this little hotel in South Carolina and talk fic, drink wine, talk writing, drink wine, write, re-watch some episodes, drink wine, do crafts and... well, anything you can imagine a bunch of fangirls who are share common interests doing, really. There is also a fair bit of coffee involved.

I made it out twice and it was such a delight. No guests, no dealers, just 15 or 20 like minded fans, bonding over a shared appreciation for the sexiness of John Sheppard and Rodney McKay's ass Stargate Atlantis.

But! I have, in years past, gone to Buffy Cons and Stargate Cons, and they were a lot of fun. Like you say, it's not really so much the guests, though it is very cool to see them and hear them talk - it's really about meeting the people and making those friendships. There is just nothing like it. I'm still so grateful for the chance I had to meet people in Buffy fandom almost 15 years ago when I flew to Florida for that one con - it was awesome!

Anyway! Sorry for blabbering all over - the point was, I don't know enough people in HP fandom to even know where to start asking around if anyone is interested in sharing a hotel. I am on the drarry discord, but I don't really know anyone, so I've not spoken up much there. Any suggestions are welcome.

I just paid off a credit card today, so suddenly I'm feeling like this isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility.

Hm. Well I'd say start at the Snarry Dicord and see what people say. It's early since tickets aren't even in sale yet (presumably you're talking about Leviosa?) but people may be starting to plan their next year vacations.
Sometimes cons have sites where single attendees can find roommates, but you're taking your chances with that. IMO it's best of you can attend with one person you know so you can have a built in companion, and then, as you meet people the subsequent cons get easier since you know people.

Squee!10 sounds like a HP slash con we used to have called Lubricus. OMG, it was awesome. No dealers, just fangirls sitting around talking slash porn, drawing slash porn, writing slash porn...*happy sigh*

I realize it may be tough but all I can say is I hope you can male it because I want to meet you! <3

I heard about Lubricus! A friend of mine went and said it was great- and it *sucks* that I missed it since it was basically in my backyard. That would have been a day trip for me.

I'd love to come - while SoCal / Hollywood would never be my choice as a vacay destination, meeting like minded fans has ALWAYS been a wonderful experience. It would be fantastic to meet you too.

I'm planning on MISTI and Leviosa, and I live in Boston. I'm not sure if I will do Leaky, but if I don't, I'd love to meet up with you! I'm just waffling about Leaky because it seems a little bit like the sort of con that does a lot of big name Honored Guests and not so much fanfic fun, and also has big crowds/long lines, but I haven't actually ever gone so I could be just wrong?

So here's the thing about Leaky. It is big, and it's not fandom oriented per se, but it's fun nonetheless. The panels are interesting, and the dealers room is phenomenal. I'd say the attendees are mostly kids and parents, although there are many ~more mature fans there, too. It does seem quite teen oriented to me. Like you, I don't give a toss about the 'honored guests', and didn't go to any of those ticketed event things. I only really go to cons to meet up with other fans (and shop, lol).

There are several HP fans in Boston, so there would definitely be a slash lunch or dinner or something non Leaky related, so I'll let you know when that's happening. And if you'd like to come and hang out in the hotel and get a drink and talk slash at some point you're welcome to. Whatever you like. :)

We Boston fans are often so bad at arranging events and get togethers, but would make an effort since folks are around from out of town!

I might try to go to Leakycon! I went back in 2014 and had an absolute blast, I'd love to go again. I'm pretty tempted by Leviosa, but because it's out west again that makes it a lot harder for me to get to so probably not.

The one in Dallas was okay, but I didn't like how far from the hotel the convention center was.
The one in Boston looks like it's a better location.
I am cautiously excited for next year's cons!

July and August are currently terrible for me, but Leviosa is June, so MAYBE. And let's hope Potterverse gets its act together. :)

I'm def considering Misit, Leaky, or Leviosa (would probably only do one of them) but I've got a lot of other travel happening next year, so I'm not sure I'll be able to swing any of them. :/
