Out of The Bag

~

Settling into the chair, Severus accepted a cup of tea and a sandwich. He would never admit this aloud, but he actually enjoyed his weekly visits with Minerva.

“It’s good to see you finally content, Severus. Your... affairs must be going well.”

Except when she was cryptic. He looked up at her, puzzled. “Excuse me,” he said. “But what are you talking about?”

“Your personal relationships,” she clarified, stirring her tea. “You seem so much more relaxed, happy even. I’ve noticed it ever since you and Harry began socializing. You seem quite content when you’re together.”

Severus blanched. “What? I... We are not, as you put it, together,” he snapped.

Minerva smiled. “Ah, yes, well you would say that, of course, but you can tell me, you know. I shan’t condemn you. The two of you, more than anyone, are entitled to some joy.”

Severus blinked, feeling as though he had stepped into a different world. “Minerva,” he said carefully. “Surely you cannot be suggesting that Harry Potter and I are...”

To Severus’ horror, she winked. “Oh, well of course, if you persist in keeping your relationship with Harry a secret then I shall support you in that as well. Although, it would be nice for the people that worry about him, such as Molly and Arthur, to know that he is loved.”

After staring at her for a long moment, Severus smirked. “This is a practical joke, is it not? I would have thought it beneath you, Minerva, but since you persist in this, I shall humour you. Think what you will.”

She chuckled. “You are such a stubborn man,” she said. “Very well, shall we discuss the fourth-year Potions curriculum?”

They finished their meeting, and as Severus rose to leave, Minerva said, “Do give Harry my regards.”

He glared at her, but she simply looked up at him guilelessly.

The day got stranger as Madam Pomfrey, whom he met with to go over what potions she needed extra supplies of, also expressed similar wishes that he and Harry would always be happy together. When he asked what she meant, she simply smiled and winked.

By the time Madam Pince, Professor Sprout and even the Bloody Baron had congratulated him, Severus was seething. Upon arriving home, he slammed open his door, tossing a stack of parchments onto a table before stalking over to the bar and pouring himself a stiff Firewhisky.

With an exasperated sigh, he settled into a chair, and after a few minutes he’d calmed down enough to sip his drink thoughtfully. Where had the rumour started, he wondered. Not that it was surprising, really, given the amount of time people saw them spending together.

Harry had matured into a competent man, a very attractive, competent man, in fact...

As Severus contemplated this, someone opened the door and entered.

“Severus?”

Severus closed his eyes. “Harry, shut the door,” he said.

Harry did so before walking into the room. “Are you all right?” he asked, helping himself to a glass of Firewhisky before settling into a chair across from Severus.

“I heard a rumour today,” Severus finally said, staring into the swirling amber depths of his glass as if it held the answers to all life’s questions.

“Oh?” Harry asked.

“Minerva and several others seem to think that we are in some sort of a... relationship.”

Harry smiled. “What sort of relationship?” he asked.

“They implied a romantic one,” Severus said.

“And?”

Severus sighed. “They congratulated me and wished us good luck.”

Harry laughed and stretched, and Severus’ eye was pulled to where his shirt lifted to reveal a patch of taut stomach. “I wonder how they came up with that?” Harry asked, and Severus smirked.

“No idea,” he purred, and, standing, he reached down and pulled Harry out of the chair and into his arms. “So, do you think it’s time?”

Harry grinned, and looped his arms around Severus’ neck. “I think the Kneazle’s out of the bag,” he whispered against Severus’ lips. “So, yeah, I think we should finally announce to the world the fact that we’ve been secretly bonded for six months. And you know what this means, yeah?”

Severus ran his hands down Harry’s back, clutching his arse and lifting Harry just enough so that he would feel the press of Severus’ erection through their clothes. He smiled smugly as Harry moaned. “What does it mean, brat?”

Rocking against Severus slowly, Harry said, “It means... I win the bet. I knew Minerva would be supportive.”

Severus shook his head. “Not so fast,” he said. “I believe the bet was that ALL our friends would be supportive. We still have your friends, the Weasleys, to go.”

Harry stilled. “Um, do you want to tell them?”

Severus smiled, remembering the look on Minerva’s face. “I suspect it’s been handled,” he said. “Come to bed.”
