Severus located Lupin in an alley. “Get up!” he sneered, prodding him with his foot.
Lupin cracked open an eye. “G’way,” he slurred.
“You’re coming with me. I don’t care whether you’re sober or not.”
“Not going.” Lupin sniffed. “James...Lily...dead. My fault.”
“You’re not the only one mourning,” Severus snarled. “Be useful!”
“I’m just a creature of th’night,” Lupin sobbed. “What can I do?”
“Help me avenge them.”
Lupin blinked. “You miss them, too?” he whispered.
“Indeed.” Severus looked away. “So, will you help?”
Lupin nodded. “Yes.”
Severus never admitted it, but they saved each other that night.
