Bearer of Good News

“Think it’s time you talked about it with Draco, Harry,” Seamus said, taking a pull of his beer thoughtfully. “Dean and I have been discussing it, and we’re just about ready.”

Harry went pale. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready though,” he said. “I mean fatherhood is such a big step...”

Seamus nudged his shoulder. “Oi, I know, mate. But I’m thinking you’re ready,” he said. “I reckon we’re both older than our fathers were when they had us.”

“Not helpful,” Harry said.

“You could even make Malfoy bear,” Seamus said, grinning wickedly.

Harry’s eyes widened. “Bear what?”

“Why the children of course. Magic can do anything, Harry.”

“Even... well... that?”

Seamus grinned. “Hell yes! Just talk to Draco about it. He’ll know. It’s something that pureblood families know all about. He can’t be the first Malfoy that’s been a pouf in the history of the family.”

Which was how Harry came to be bringing breakfast in bed up to his bondmate. “I brought breakfast,” he said softly as he tiptoed into the room.

Draco opened one bleary eye. “All right, what do you want?” he asked huskily.

“Why do you think I want something?” Harry said, placing the tray carefully on the bed.

“Because you always attempt to put me in a good mood before you try to talk me into things,” Draco said, shifting so he was upright. “And you know how I hate mornings, so you usually try to do something like this to wake me up gently.”

“Shush and drink your tea,” Harry said, handing Draco a cup.

Draco sipped, his eyes closing in bliss. “Mmmm, it must be something big,” he said. “This is the good stuff.”

Harry smiled and uncovered the plate with warm scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam.

Draco sighed. “Right. I think I’d better eat before you tell me,” he said.

Harry laughed and they ate in a companionable silence. After the last morsel had been consumed, Draco turned to Harry. “All right, so what’s going on?”

Harry flushed. “I wanted to ask if you’d ever thought about being a father.”

Draco blinked. “Of course I have,” he said. “Pansy and I even discussed it when we were dating.”

“Now that we’re together, that can’t happen, I guess,” Harry said.

“Sure it can.” Draco covered Harry’s hand with his own. “Is that what’s worrying you? There are ways, Harry. We can have children.”

“There are?”

“Of course. We’re magical beings! There’s always a way.”

“Right,” Harry said, gulping nervously. “Well, then. What about fathering a child with me?” he said, fingers plucking at the blanket.

“Absolutely,” Draco said, smiling.

“Um, well, would you, er... carry it?”

Draco frowned. “Carry it?” he repeated. “I don’t see how. I would have to have been hiding something fairly significant from you, Harry. I’m not a girl, so that’s impossible.”

Harry looked up. “What? Oh, well I know that, but I thought that with magic... well, Seamus said...”

Draco’s eyes widened then he laughed long and hard, and soon, Harry was laughing with him.

“Merlin! You thought that magic could make a man carry a child?” he gasped.

Harry nodded, tears of mirth streaming down his face. “Yeah, guess that’s the last time I believe Seamus about anything.”

Draco snickered, then, leaning close, he whispered, “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe Finnigan’s onto a good idea here.” Pulling at the tie on Harry’s sleep robe, he looked up through his lashes. “I think we should test that theory.”

Harry smiled, pulling Draco down on top of him. Before they kissed however, he murmured against his lips, “If I end up pregnant, Draco, I’ll never forgive you.”
